Dixie's POV:

I had agreed to walk with Esme further into the woods to talk some. I don't fully know why but I trusted her. She looked the part of a caring mother, and brought with her presence a sense of love and acceptance. Whether that was true or simply a delusion on my part I wasn't sure yet, but I felt that even if it wasn't I could persuade my way out of trouble. I sat on one of the small boulders by the river, watching as she took a seat across from me with a soft smile on her face.

She has a sweet and caring face, with soft caramel colored hair that frames her features perfectly. But it's her eyes that hold my attention the most, both with the amount of kindness that they showed, and the color they were. The liquid gold colored eyes are something I've never seen on vampires in my 200 years. I am accustomed to the red eyes that match my own when I'm thirsty, or worse still the black eyes meaning the vampire waited too long in between hunting trips. Or in my case that I've lost control of my own bloodlust, neither reasons for black eyes are good in any scenario.

"No doubt you have some questions for me dear." (E)

"Yes ma'am. I......I've never seen vampires with golden eyes before. Only red or black, like mine." (D)

"It's because of our diet. We only feed from animals, so our eyes are golden in color rather than red." (E)

I just nod some as I stare at her. That doesn't work for me though. I've gone entire decades before with a diet of only animal and my eyes still simply change from the non-thirsty silvery blue to the in-between purples and finally the thirsty red color or worse the black color that the darkness inside takes on. I look back up to see her smiling at me, waiting for me to come out of my thoughts.

"What's your name dear?" (E)

"I don't really use it very often anymore ma'am." (D)

"Might I know it anyway?" (E)

"Yes ma'am. My name is Dixie Ruby James, ma'am. I've gone by Angel before though as well, though not in a positive way." (D)

"Dixie Ruby, it's a lovely name dear......are you from the south?" (E)

I nod as she smiles at me a bit, thankful she didn't have any negative words on my name. That never brings out my best side, hence why I don't use it as often as I once did. It's old fashioned and people enjoy mocking it, which usually ends up in the Angel side of me coming out and it's anything but an Angel. She seems to be thinking what to ask me next and I'm doing the same for her.

"How old are you Dixie?" (E)

"You first, please." (D)

"Alright. I was born in 1895, and I was turned when I was 26. So overall, I'm 164."

"I was born in 1858. I'll be 201 in August."

I watch as surprise passes over her face before a small smile. She reaches over to take my hand in hers and I surprise even myself when I let her. She squeezes it a bit as she smiles at me. I know the question she has coming and I know the lie I will be telling concerning it. I'm surprised that she hasn't noticed the slight difference in our temperatures, or my heartbeat every few seconds, or even my scent which I know differs a bit from vampires.

"How old were you when you were turned?" (E)

"15 or 16 I think." (D)

"So young. Do you need a place to stay? You're more than welcome to stay with us." (E)

"I bought a house, off Creek Road in the woods." (D)

"Would you mind if I visited you there tomorrow then?" (E)

I pause for a moment, wanting to say no, but then I look at her and for the first time since the James brother's I feel wanted and cared for. She makes me fell accepted, just as the brothers did so long ago. I give her a nod before she stands and offers me a hand up. I take it before we race back to the clearing. I let go of her hand and freeze halfway across the clearing as I see the size of her entire coven. I don't think I've ever come across one this size before and it frightens me some.

I eye the two that had me pinned against the tree from earlier, before glancing at the rest as the blond one, Carlisle, introduces them all. A large coven with everyone paired up, and they're all vegetarian vampires. I never thought I'd see something like this in all my years. I can't help but wonder why I should find this in the town of Forks rather than in the old cities in Europe where vampires are more common.

"Miss I would like to introduce you to the rest of the family. These are our sons Edward, Jasper, and Emmett. Their wives, Bella, Alice, and Rosalee. Our granddaughter is at a friend's house this evening." (C)

"Hello." (D)

"Everyone this is Dixie Ruby James, she's knew to the neighborhood." (E)

"Dixie Ruby? Ha I thought my name was odd." (Em)

I couldn't stop the hiss from my mouth as the big one laughed at my name, the only one I was ever given. He has no right to insult the name they gave me after caring for me so. I see him tense and I prepare to receive the hit as he gets ready to spring at me, feeling the darkness come closer to the surface wanting a fight. But that was before Esme places her hand against his chest and gives him a stern look. He relaxes his stance almost immediately, with an apologetic look in his eyes towards her. She really is like a mother, and the sight makes my heart ache the longer I'm there.

"I have to go. Ma'am, it will just be you tomorrow right?" (D)

"Of course dear. I will see you tomorrow." (E)

I give a nod before leaving the clearing as fast as my legs will allow me. Impressed with myself that I opened up to her so quickly and the fact that I didn't use my persuasion on anyone while I was there. Pleased that the extinct of my fear didn't come out as I stood in front of them, and that I didn't do worse than hissing at the idiot for mocking my name. Glad that the darkness stayed hidden from Esme, who I don't want to disappoint for some reason.

Overall, this unexpected meeting went fairly well, considering what could have happened. I could be dead after meeting a coven of that size. I can only hope tomorrow goes as smoothly as well. I can only hope for acceptance though my fear of rejection still lingers.
