Chapter 49

Kat's POV:

We reached the tower faster than I thought we would, Luna giving the answer to the riddle as they walked through the door with me following closely behind. I took a deep breath and panicked for a moment when I realized Alecto was hiding her scent. I listened harder and could just make out her heartbeat coming from a corner but not before Harry had already climbed up to read the words off the diadem of Ravenclaw.

"Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure." (H)

"Which makes you pretty skint, witless. Just like the bloodsucker." (Alecto)

I watched as if in slow motion as Harry fell off the statue and back onto the floor. I sprinted in front of Harry hissing with my wand raised ready to disarm her but watched as she pressed her finger to her Dark Mark instead. I heard Harry's heart rate increase and I ready my wand to stun that vile creature called a witch, but I was beat.

I saw a red streak shoot from my left side and his her squarely in the chest, and she fell forward hitting the ground so hard that the glass in the many bookcases tinkled. I felt myself glance  towards the space where I knew Luna was standing, unable to say anything at first as impressed with her as I was.

"I've never Stunned anyone except in our D.A. lessons. That was noisier than I thought it would be." (Luna)

"Ha. No kidding, great job Luna." (K)

I heard the students in the dorms above us begin to wake up and come down the stairs. I watched as Harry disappeared under the cloak just as the students stepped out into the common room. I saw them look at me with smiles on their faces, before they looked to Alecto laying on the ground.

"Kat, you're alright?!?" (Megan)

I was tackled into a hug by several of the students before Eddie walked bravely up to Alecto's unconscious form. I saw him nudge her with his foot before smiling and looking up to the other first years waiting nervously by the stairs.

"I think she might be dead!" (Eddie-1st year)

"Afraid not, but now I must ask that everyone-" (K)

My request died on my lips as we all heard the knocking on the door and the riddle asked by the knocker. I knew who it was on the other side and my only hope laid with the possibility of him being too stupid to know the answer to the riddle to get in.

"Alecto? Alecto? Are you there? Have you got him? Open the door! ALECTO! If he comes, and we haven't got Potter—d'you want to go the same way as the Malfoys? ANSWER ME!!" (Amycus)

"I need everyone to go back up to their room immediately. Do not come out until Professor McGonagall, Flitwick, or myself come for you. Is that understood?" (K)

The older ones nodded as I looked to them and they ushered the others back up to the dorms as quietly and quickly as they could. I walked over to the corner shielded in shadow as I heard him continue to bang on the door, then I heard Minnie walk up and address him. I felt my blood boil as he yelled at her and insulted her.

"She ain't answering, you old beson! You open it! Garn! Do it now!" (Amycus)

"Certainly, if you wish." (Mc)

"Where do vanished objects go?" (Door)

"Into nonbeing, which is to say, everything." (Mc)

I hear the knocker complement her before it opened, and a I heard a few of the older Ravenclaws who had tried to remain on the staircases sprint up them as Amycus came bursting in with his wand raised. Upon seeing Alecto laying on the floor he let out a yell and began shouting about what he would do to the students for killing his sister. I stayed hidden in the dark and remained silent as I watched Amycus panic about not having Harry when Voldemort arrives.
