Chapter 52

George's POV:

What had started out as a job to ensure no one came out of the passageways, was soon abandoned as Death Eaters began to flood the corridors, having gotten past the outside defenses. I feel my heart clench in fear for Kitty and dad and countless others who were out there, as well as the rest of our friends that were battling for their lives in here. I hear Peeves cackle as he throws some type of pods down on Death Eaters as he flies by.

"PEEVES!" (G)

"AH! Miss Vamp's hubby-bubby, should be with her he should." (Peeves)

"Is she alright? Have you seen her?" (G)

"Miss vamp is teaching the ickle deathy eaters who is boss. Hahahaha wheeeeeeee." (Peeves)

I shot another curse at an approaching Death Eater, knowing that was the best information I was going to get out of Peeves. I felt someone shove me towards the staircase and looked back to see Angelina staring at me before shouting a curse towards a Death Eater that had managed to get the pod off his head.

"GO! Find Kat! Now!" (Ang)

I nodded in thanks toward Angelina, rushing between the duels taking place on the crumbling staircases. I watch as Peeves continues to pelt the Death Eaters with pods that grow and cover their heads, but I'm more concerned on getting to the courtyard and finding Kat more than anything.

Kat's POV:

I was in a five-way duel in the courtyard after my lovely duel with Greyback. It was me, Seamus, and Neville against Crabbe Sr. and a second one that I didn't know. It should have been an even match, 3-2, but we were suffering from the distractions composed of the random giants stomping around, while also trying to avoid the jinxes and hexes that continued to fly around us.

I heard a shout followed by a cry, and turned for just a moment to see Remus dueling with Dolohov again and it wasn't going well. It was then that I saw it was the night before a full moon, and Remus was already at his weakest before the fighting began. I looked around for reinforcements and saw Aberforth a few feet off, but before I could shout for him to help Remus I saw the green streak fly through the air.

"NO! REMUS!!" (K)

I saw it hit him before he seemed to fall back in slow motion, anger coursing through my veins seeing my friend killed in front of me. I turned back to the duel I was in and soon had Crabbe Sr. indisposed, watching as Seamus and Neville began to take down the other one. I turned and rushed towards Dolohov who was now shooting spells at Aberforth and Terry Boot. I rushed behind him, grabbing his wand arm before wrapping my other arm around his neck.

"Remember me? This is for Remus." (K)

I sank my fangs into his neck, reveling in his screams of pain as he clawed at my arm around his neck in an attempt to free himself. I had planned to kill him this way, I wanted him to suffer. I didn't want him to rot in jail if we won this, and I in no way wanted him to survive if we lost. I wanted him dead, and I was determined to do it until I had two sets of arms pulling me off him. I fought against them for a moment before seeing the O'Larry twins holding me back from the scum.

"Eh love, yeh don want to be doin tha, not really. You'll hate yehself later yeh will." (Mike)

"Aye, but we won. This one is ours Kat, we'll finish 'im." (John)

I knew in my angered heart that they were right, I didn't want to become a monster by killing that scum that way. But I wasn't going to tell them not to, and they didn't seem to mind at all. So, I let go of Dolohov watching as they sank their fangs in and drained him dry in front of me. I looked up to see Neville, Seamus, Terry, and Abe staring at me with mixed expressions. Fear, concern, even a bit impressed, but we didn't have time to discuss it now.

I rushed towards Remus, feeling my knees give out as I reached his side. I didn't have to check for a pulse or listen for a heartbeat as my head told my heart what it already knew, he was gone. I felt tears fall from eyes and my heart ached for Teddy who would never know his father personally. I closed Remus's eyes before standing up from his side, whispering a silent promise to watch over Teddy if I survived tonight.

I looked around the battle ground for Tonks to make sure she was out of danger, but I was unable to find her in the chaos. I heard Kingsley yelling to fall back to the castle, and I knew with a growing sense of dread that Death Eaters had fought their way inside. I fought my way through, seeing curse after curse barely miss me, praising my luck tonight. A few minutes later and I found myself dueling a Death Eater that barely looked seventeen.

A few feet away Percy was dueling the minister, and Fred was battling a Death Eater that still had his hood intact somehow. As another two Death Eaters jumped into the fight I saw the trio join us. Remus's death fresh on my mind I fought harder than I knew I could, finding that the Death Eater had no more business in this fight as some of the students that were evacuated from the castle earlier. Once my Death Eater was no longer a problem I turned to help the others in our corridor.

"Hello, Minister! Did I mention I'm resigning?" (Percy)

Despite the heartache I was suffering under from seeing Remus pass, I couldn't help the slight smile on my face as the minister collapsed to the ground with very painful looking spikes erupting all over his body. I shot a stunning spell at Fred's Death Eater, which seemed to be the spell that he and another unknown favored as well, because he was hit with three at once. I let out a heavy breath as our corridor was Death Eater free and danger free for the moment before turning back to face Fred.

"You're joking,Perce! You actually are joking, Perce......I don't think I've heard you joke since you were--" (F)

Before Fred finished what he was saying the calm air around us exploded in rock, dust, and smoke. I saw Harry fly into the air, as the rest of us were thrown backwards into walls or floors. I pushed myself up from the floor as I coughed dust out of my lungs that had from the stones that had been blasted away. I tasted the stones on my tongue and the dust began to settle back down on the ground. For a moment, I thought we had all gotten through that unscathed, and then I heard a sound that was part of my nightmares. I heard Fred's heart stop, followed by Percy's scream filling the air.

"No—no—no! NO! Fred! No!" (Percy)
