Chaper 3 - Profligate

LUKE'S POV

I fluttered my eyes open and was faced with a gray ceiling. It was dark but not too dark seeing that there is a lighted candle at the center of the room. My eyes widened as memories start to come back to me. Cage. Calum. Michael and Ashton. Red eyes. Darkness. I sat up abruptly causing pain to shoot out in my head. I clutched my head in an attempt to lessen the pain. I looked around and saw Calum unconscious on the bed which is placed on the opposite side of the room. I walked over to his bed and checked his pulse. Good, he's fine. I sat beside him and just observed his facial features. What happened to Ashton and Michael? The last time I remember was seeing their frightened faces. I just hope they managed to escape. And the red eyes, I'm pretty sure the tall guys who captured us had red eyes. Vampires? No, they don't exist. But I caught a glimpse of their fangs. It can't be. Vampires aren't real. I'm just being delusional.

"L-Luke?" a soft voice whispered.

My thoughts were cut short and I saw Calum sitting up slowly. I placed one of my hands on his back to help him, in case he's still weak.

"I'm glad you're okay." he whispered.

I smiled and rested my forehead on his.

"I'm glad you're okay." I whispered to him while I looked into his chocolate eyes.

He smiled and let out a small laugh.

I would do anything to hear him laugh and see his smile. I want to make him happy.

CALUM'S POV

I looked to my right and I see Luke already looking at me. I smiled slightly but memories of Ashton and Michael made me frown causing me to tear my gaze away from his beautiful blue eyes. I can sense Luke's worried gaze at me.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"I'm fine. I just miss Ashton and Michael. I wonder if they're okay. When will we be able to see them again?" I asked him softly.

"We'll get out of here, Cal." he said. I can hear the promise and determination in his voice.

I nodded at that and smiled at him before closing my eyes.

It's been two months since we saw Ashton and Michael. Two months since the vampires took our freedom away. Yes. Vampires. They're real. When they knew about the virus spreading, they decided to 'save' us and protect us. We're not the only ones who are here. Familiar faces from the orphanage we were in are also here along with some kids who maybe lost their parents due to the virus who are the same age as us. The vampires told us about protecting us from the humans but we still couldn't understand what they were talking about since we are also humans. Vampires protecting humans from humans. Weird. But in return for that protection we must donate our blood every two weeks for them. They call us livestocks and if we refuse to give them what they want, they're gonna suck us dry delivering us to our deaths in an instant.

And that's why we're here in this white room on a white bed with hoses stuck to our arm sucking doses of our blood, but not enough to make us dizzy and weak, to be offered to the vampires.

"2596 and 1696, you're good to go." a female voice caught our attention.

I detached the hose from my arm and sat up, walking over to Luke and we left the room together as we headed to our cabin.

LUKE'S POV

I slowly opened the door to our cabin, not making any noises. We've been in the Vampire Protection Program for 4 months now and I've been sneaking out for two months already, letting a vampire suck blood from me directly while in return he would give me anything I ask from him. And because of that, I get to roam around his mansion and I finally found the map to help us escape from this hellhole and a gun from Zach's drawer. I sigh, good thing he never suspected anything from me seeing as I have been directly offering my blood to him for two months.
