Chapter 10 – Precede

LUKE'S POV

"Cal, leave! Just go! L-Leave me here, j-just go. Go, Calum!" I said softly as tears ran down my cheeks, blurring my vision.

"N-No...Luke, I'm not leaving you here! I'm not going out there without you!" Tears welled up in Calum's eyes as he walked closer towards us. Zach stopped sucking on my neck but kept his fangs pierced to my skin.

"I love you..." Those were my last words and I let the darkness engulf me.

I fluttered my eyes open and winced as pain started throbbing from my neck. I rubbed my fingers on the spot and I can feel the bite marks. Calum. My eyes widened as I sat up abruptly and started walking towards the door. I twisted the knob before opening it only to see Zach already there. I narrowed my eyes.

"And where do you think you're going?" Zach asked me, one of his eyebrows shooting up.

I sigh and went back to sit on my bed.

"What did you do to me?" I asked him straightforwardly.

He shrugged. "I just gave you a bit of my venom and turned you into one of us."

"WHAT?" I stood up abruptly. "I don't wanna be one of you, you monster!"

And before I can process anything, a stinging sensation was felt on my left cheek causing me to turn my head to the side because of the impact.

"You don't get to call us that, young man. You got it all wrong because humans are more monstrous than us, they just don't look like it."

I turned my head to look at him with wide eyes.

"W-What do you mean?"

"You say you're from Mystic Orphanage, right?"

I nodded, waiting for him to continue.

"The Mystic Orphanage is a fraud."

My eyes widened in surprise.

"The orphanage is actually a lab, experimenting on innocent children like yourself. They ran tests on children to know who can withstand the power of the Eden. The Eden is the key to the end of the world and Kellin wants that key so he can rule the world."

"N-No...Uncle Kellin wouldn't do that."

"You really think so, kid? I've been friends with Kellin since forever and who do you think is behind the virus that ended humanity itself?"

"Y-You don't mean..."

"Exactly. It's all Kellin."

"N-no, I don't believe you..."

"Okay, that's fine with me. I have proof here." He said handing me a white folder. "Everything's in there. I suggest you read it and you can decide if you will save Calum from the humans or go with them." Then, he left me all by myself.

I shut the folder with force, my eyes wide and my breathing uneven. No. It can't be. The folders contain every profile of the kids in the orphanage. Including us. It seems that they've been observing us and I saw a list of kids with the label 'for Eden' on it. Good thing Ashton's, Michael's and Calum's names were not on the list. But I am included. I can't believe that they are doing this for the sake of taking over the world. Why am I in the list? I can't remember any experiments being executed on me.

"That's because they did something to you to forget what happened." Zach's voice startled me. I turned to him. I didn't even hear him come in.

"Why would they do that?" I asked softly.
