Chapter 23 – Eternal
LUKE'S POV
Calum held me in his arms as I buried my head into the crook of his neck.
"Hey, hey, Luke? Why aren't you regenerating?" he asked frantically.
"I'm out of powers, Cal. I need human blood...l-lots of it."
"Just drink from me, Luke." He suggested, as he unbuttoned the top buttons of his uniform and before he could go any further, I stopped him.
"I can't, Cal."
"Why? You did it before?"
"This is different, Calum." I heard Zach's voice from a distance.
"What do you mean, Zach?" Calum asked as Zach stopped right in front of us.
I observed his features. He looks...battered. He had a few scratches here and there, some parts of his clothes were torn, a few stab wounds which were regenerated but the scars remained, bloodstains. But over all, he's okay. I sighed in relief.
"W-where are the others, Zach?" I asked.
"Luke, you're more in trouble than they are and here you are worrying about them." Calum said softly, worry visible in his eyes as he slowly stroked my cheek with his thumb.
Suddenly, unbearable pain shoot up from the stab wound that Brendon gave me causing me to cry out in pain.
"Luke! Luke!" Calum repeatedly cried out my name, his voice cracking.
CALUM'S POV
"Oh my god..." I managed to get out as I saw remnants of Brendon's curse from Luke's wound. "Fuck, no, the curse is spreading! Luke! Luke, please stay with me. Please..." I begged as I held him in my arms but he continued to cough out blood, his eyes clenched tightly due to the pain he's feeling.
"Luke, just drink from me!" I said without hesitation.
"Calum, are you crazy? He'll suck you dry!" Zach said, looking at me like I was crazy.
"Then, what do you suggest, Zach?"
"Luke doesn't want to drink directly from humans, we need bloodbags."
"We don't have the fucking time to get bloodbags, Zach! Luke is dying and the curse is spreading fast throughout his body!" I said angrily. I looked at Luke once again, "Luke, look at me." He struggled to open his eyes but he managed.
"I want you to drink from me, okay?"
"N-no...C-Cal...Please...D-don't make me..." He whispered, grunting in pain in between his words.
"Fucking hell, Calum, the only way to get rid of the curse is to turn you into a vampire!" Zach admitted.
"So?" I said, making their eyes widen.
"What? Kindly explain further, please." Ashton said.
"Once a demon's curse starts to spread throughout the vampire's body, there's no guarantee that the vampire would survive. But through the years, we found a solution. The only way to get rid of a demon's curse is for the vampire to drink loads of human blood and that means emptying the life out of the human, and when the human's heart stops beating, the venom of the vampire will spread throughout the human body, turning him into a vampire. A life for a life. It's an equivalent trade." Zach explained.
"N-No...Cal...Please..." Luke begged, tears started to form from the corners of his eyes.
"Luke, come on..." I completely unbuttoned my uniform and brought his face closer to the side of my neck.
"Come on, Luke..."
"No, C-Cal, I'm not t-taking your life a-away! P-please don't make me...d-do this!" he begged, tears streaming down his pale face.
"Luke, I don't wanna lose you. I want to be with you... And if this is the only way for me to be with you, I don't care." I said, stroking his hair.
"C-Cal...I don't w-want you to give up y-your humanity..." he sobbed.
I closed my eyes and softly chuckled. "Luke...I told you, I don't care. Human or vampire or demon, I don't care what I am as long as I'm with you..." I whispered, my lips grazing on his ear.
He sobbed harder.
"Come on, Luke. Do it."
MICHAEL'S POV
We watched as Luke sobbed and buried his fangs into Calum's neck. More tears streamed down Luke's cheeks and onto Calum's skin and Calum wrapped his arms tighter around him, whispering sweet words into Luke's ear to provide even the slightest bit of comfort for him.
As Luke continued to suck and drink Calum's blood from his neck, we noticed Calum's skin turn pale in each passing second and his body beginning to grow limp until finally, he fell unconscious. He lay in Luke's arms peacefully as Luke continued to sob loudly, uttering apologies to Calum on repeat like a mantra.
I felt Ashton wrap his arm around my shoulder as he pulled me closer.
"Atleast, they're both alive, right?" He asked.
I nodded slowly and watched as Luke carried Calum towards the choppers that will bring us back to safety and to our new home. It's been a rough journey and to think that Brendon and Kellin were only using us as test subjects and were actually planning on killing us all from the start really took its toll upon us and that was the main cause of the great battle between the vampires and the demons but we learned to accept everything.
Turns out that the vampires were our real comrades after all. I smile at the thought. I'm glad that we're all alive.
"Hey." We turned around to see Chrissy's arm around Rena's shoulder as she helped her up since she injured her leg from the fight earlier, Miranda, Alex and the rest of our comrades who fought alongside us against the real enemies. We all looked terrible and beat up but we all had genuine smiles on our faces.
"Let's go home, guys." I said and they grinned.
Thus, we all left everything behind and headed towards the light, ready to face what the future has in store for all of us.
"YES!" They all cheered.
All that's left is for Calum to wake up.
