Chapter 17 – Plans

"I could've drove, you know." Calum pouted.

Luke chuckled at his childishness and pinched Calum's cheeks with his hand as the other stayed on the steering wheel of the old car they've used to get to the airport.

"If you drive then we'll be dead before we can even get to the airport." Luke teased.

Calum snorted. "Fuck you."

"Last time I checked I was the one who fucked y-"

"Shut up!" Calum fake-glared at Luke but the blush on his cheeks gave it away.

Luke laughed.

"Stop laughing and drive."

And the two boys fell into a comfortable silence, just content with being each other. That is until Luke remembered something important that he needs to tell Calum.

"Hey, Cal?" He started, his eyes not leaving the road.

"Hm?" He hummed, letting Luke know that he's listening even though his eyes are fixated on the view outside the window.

"Remember when I told you that I have to explain to you why the humans are using you?"

"Yeah? What about it?"

"You see, the Mystic Orphanage is a fraud." Luke glanced sideways to see Calum's reaction but he only gave him blank eyes and urged him to continue.

Luke gulped before continuing. "You see, the reason Zach turned me into a vampire because he knows I can save you and he knows that you'll believe me. If he didn't, he knew that I would always come after you and there would be no one left to tell you guys the truth. And it's not like they can tell us the truth because he knows that we'll never believe them after what they did to us. But Cal, through the years, I've learned to trust Zach because he made me believe that he has faith in me. That's why, Cal, I don't want you to trust Brendon because he's not who you think he is. Kellin, too."

"How do you know that, Luke? Brendon saved my life!"

"That's because he's planning to use you as part of his army to activate the Eden!"

"Eden? What the hell is that? You're making things up, Luke. Come talk to me when you're in the right mind."

Luke sighed. Calum glared at him. "Cal, you don't understand, I was one of the experiments for the Eden. Zach showed me proof. And you, Michael and Ashton and the rest of you guys are being used by Kellin and Brendon."

"What the hell is the Eden, Luke?"

"The Eden is the ultimate key to end the world and humanity itself, Cal. Because Kellin wants to rule the world and Brendon is helping him achieve that goal. And they're behind the virus years ago."

Calum scoffed, clearly not believing what Luke just said.

"C'mon, Cal, don't you believe me? I'm your friend. We've been together ever since."

"How about Uncle Kellin, huh? He took care of us when our parents abandoned us! And Brendon saved my life!"

"Yeah? Then where was Kellin when the virus occurred, huh? Nowhere in sight! Because he knew and made sure that the virus won't affect us because he planned to use us for his selfish desires!" Luke spat angrily, hitting the brakes and returned Calum's glare.

"Why won't you believe me, Calum?"

"Because who knows that you're just spouting nonsense to make us turn our backs on Kellin and Brendon. You're a vampire, Luke, of course you're gonna side with the monsters who're capable of killing a human by sucking us dry. How do I know that this is not a trap?" Calum answered, only a few seconds later did he realize what he said and that it might have hurt Luke.
