The bell rang ending class and signalling lunch has started. I followed Caroline to her locker while she went on about the 'gang' as she called it. I tried to keep up but she was talking way too fast so I just nodded and smiled. I'd ask everyone's names later. She led me to the front doors of the school and then outside, turning right and walking quickly towards a table. I saw Elena and Bonnie sitting with a group of people I assumed was the 'gang'.
"Guys! Guys! I want you to meet Lydia, she just moved here from California! Oh and she's also Tyler's sister" Caroline shouted as we neared the table. Suddenly I got nervous as she stopped next to the table, I didn't know these people and they were all staring at me. Usually I'd have no problem with people staring at me but things have changed.
I snapped out of my daze as a blonde boy spoke up looking at Caroline and I. "Tyler has a sister?" He asked while looking over at me, not seeing much resemblance between the two of us. "Yeah it's a long story but their mom pretty much cheated on Mr.Lockwood with Lydia's dad and she ended up getting pregnant with twins. She had a Paternity test done and found out Tyler was a Lockwood and Lydia was a Martin so she gave Lydia to her dad and went back Mr.Lockwood and kept it a secret. When Lydia's dad passed away she moved here to live with her mom even though they don't really know each other but they'll figure it out eventually and be a happy family!" She answered back, all in one breathe looking at her phone after as if what she just said was so normal.

I stared at the surprised faces and just nodded clarifying that that's pretty much what happened. I was suddenly pulled down by Caroline as she sat down on the bench. Thankfully I was between her and Elena, not one of the strangers sitting around me.
"Oh Lydia I should probably introduce everyone, this is Matt, obviously you already know me Bonnie and Elena, that's Elena's little brother and Stefan is also our friend but he's not here-" Caroline' rambling was cut short by a warning cough and a nudge from Bonnie. I looked over and saw Elena look down, she must be dating this Stefan guy or getting over a breakup with him but whatever it was she obviously didn't really want to talk about it. I was curious as to who this Stefan was but I kept my thoughts to myself not wanting one of my new friends to be upset if I questioned it. "Today would've been our one year anniversary, technically Stefan and I met on the first day of school last year" she said with a straight face. Now I was confused? She was talking like he had passed away or was missing or something.
"Stefan was..taken..by someone a little while back, we've been trying to find him but we haven't been having very much luck" she told me probably seeing my confusion. I nodded and stayed quiet hoping someone would change the subject to something less depressing. Thankfully Caroline did "So Lydia how do you like Mystic falls so far?" I hadn't really been anywhere yet "I haven't really been anywhere yet.." I told her while her eyes widen in shock and something else I couldn't put my finger on. "Well I know you're unpacking all of you stuff after school so maybe we can meet up after I can pick you up or Tyler can drive you and we can all hang out at the grill" she asked excited. "Sure why not" I answered with a smile, Elena and Bonnie smiling as well.
