When people say you never know what you have until it's gone, they really do mean it. For Andy Edwards, she's been through enough in her lifetime to know that she can't always get what she wants. Life just keeps throwing her curveballs and there are...
I was making dinner for Elliot and I as he stayed at work for a meeting. Knowing that he would be late, I decided to make it special. I was making parmesan roasted green beans, fresh rolls and honey lemon chicken with, of course, white wine. Elliot was usually famished by the time he got home and I had exciting news to tell him. I worked a shift at the bar today and I haven't decided or not if I was going to work until the end of the month or not.
We were waiting on the realtor to see if we got the house or not and we were both anxious to see. The more I looked at it the more I fell in love with it and I knew Elliot felt the same. We would be devastated if we didn't get it. He said he would even pay the asking price, so how could they go wrong? It was going to be extremely weird moving into an actual house. I've never owned a home by myself even though I could afford it. Sure, I only worked as a bartender but I've been saving money since I was ten. I had plenty of money saved up. Of course I was still paying student loans but I budgeted with what I had.
Plus, who would want to own a house alone? It was too big and I certainly didn't want to be alone in such a big place. So I settled for a cheap apartment that suited me perfectly. I never needed anything spectacular and Elliot knew that. He felt the same way, neither of us wanted something too large; it was only the two of us. We were fine with living in an apartment, really. But we just couldn't pass up the pool that the house offered.
I changed into a boho shift, red dress and went bare foot. We haven't had the chance to go out recently with all the crazy things happening so I wanted to dress up as if we were going out. Plus, I liked dressing up for Elliot occasionally, he seemed to like it. It surprised me that I was even thinking about how Elliot would like the dress, considering I never cared before. But my whole life had seemed to turn on an axle for him. How was that even possible?
When he walked into the door, I heard him kick his shoes off and tossed his briefcase to the couch. He sighed and I could practically see him running his fingers through his long hair as he fought with his tie. I sat the finished plates on the dining table just as he walked in, smiling away. "Well, what a great sight to see right when I come home." He pulled me into his arms and kissed me, his fingers tangling in my curled hair. His grip was firm and protective as if I would walk away any moment.

I bit his lower lip before pulling away, grabbing his tie from around his neck and tossing it to the empty chair.
"Sit down before the food gets cold." I lightly shoved him into his seat and kissed his cheek before taking my place in front of him.
"Why all of this? Not that I'm complaining, this is great. But what's the occasion?" He cocked his head to the side as he took a sip of wine. I debated on whether telling him before or after dinner and decided with former.
"Well, I got a call today. You're looking at the new Coastal/Marine Environmental Project Manager for Coastal Systems International." Elliot jumped up from his seat and pulled me into his arms.
