All Alone

Chapter 23

        Sunrise finally came. Maxon and Jack were the first ones awake. 

       By now, Jack had gotten pretty much all this strength back, for he was a quick healer.

       Maxon looked around. "Where's Skylar?" He asked when he didn't see her around.

      Jack scanned the area but didn't see her either. "I don't know." He said as he slowly got up from his 'bed'.

     "Skylar?" Maxon whispered, trying not to wake the others.

      Pretty soon, Thomas woke up and saw the two boys looking around. They looked as if they were pacing. Thomas saw that Jack was worried, but he could tell that Maxon was FAR more worried.

      "Where could she have gone?" Maxon asked in a stressed tone.

      "Maybe she went to get food?" Thomas suggested.

      Jack and Maxon both looked over and saw he was awake. They didn't notice until now.

     "No, she left all her hunting supplies." Jack said, referring to the gear on the ground by the big tree.

     "Calm down." Thomas said to Maxon. He was stressing out.

     "We need to find her!" He snapped.

      The girls woke up from all the commotion.

     "What's going on?" Rosie asked, rubbing her eyes.

     "Skylar is missing." Maxon said somewhat harshly.

     "Then why are we standing around? Lets look for clues." Bella said.  The second she said that, Maxon ran into the woods looking. After watching him, everyone else went to do the same.

       About ten minutes passed. "I think I found something!" Mia called to the others.

      Everyone, especially Maxon came over.

     "Look, there are drag marks." She said, pointing to skids in the dirt.

    "She was kidnapped!" Rosie said in a surprised tone.

    "Then lets find her!" Maxon snapped and ran forward. Jack put his hand up and Maxon's chest ran into it, stopping him.

    "We need to be careful. We don't know who has her, and as you can see, the skid marks don't trail very far. Whoever took her covered most of their tracks." Jack said.

    "Well, unless someone here can 'sniff' her out, we just need to head this direction." Maxon said sarcastically. Of course no one would be able to 'sniff' her out.. right?

     "Ehem...." Bella pointed at Jack.

     "Are you kidding me?" Maxon mumbled in disbelief.

     Jack stepped in front of the group and started tracking. Everyone followed.

     He followed the scent for about thirty minutes when they finally arrived at a destination, the castle. They saw some guards talking and got closer to hear what they were saying.

   "The girl's execution will be tomorrow morning. King's orders." A guard said to the other. The two guards left to tell the others.
