8~QUEEN OF BABYLON

All the maidens were inside the exemption room, Harlan.

Sybil was addressing them when Empress Avanti entered. The whole Hall became quiet as the empress made her way to the throne.

Sybil frowned for she knows the empress showing up here is not of any good.

"Welcome your imperial Majesty" The whole maidens said and bowed

Imperial Majesty was what they referred the the queen to.

"I heard there was a gathering and no one dared inform me."  Empress Avanti said referring to Sybil but not asking making eye contact with her.

"My nephew the king will soon be celebrating his coronation as king and he needs a queen, you have all gathered here for one main reason, for the crown and title. I know you were fifty in number now you are just 10."  Avanti said scanning the room for any darting eyes.

"The test given to you before was just child's play but as from tomorrow the real test shall begin and you will prove yourself, so now return back to your quarters and brace yourself for tomorrow. Dismissed" Empress Avanti said glaring at Sybil.

One by one each maidens filed out. Sybil glared at Avanti and also walked out with all the other eunuchs.

"Sybil who was that?" Nephrite asked.

"That is Empress Avanti, the empress dowager of Persia. She is King's mother younger sister" Sybil said standing from her sitting position and walking to the window.

"How is it that she is an Empress?" Nephrite ask confuse. "Her only daughter Atalanta is might to be empress but she is still young so she can't rule yet" Sybil explained.

Nephrite nodded.

Sybil turned and faced Nephrite. "She is up to no good, she doesn't like you. The truth is she is against the idea of you being the Queen because you are a median" She explains.

Nephrite eyes grew wide. "Why? I mean what have me being a median have to do with the throne?" Nephrite asked confuse.

Sybil held Nephrite hands, the young woman definitely don't understand what Avanti is capable of doing.

"All the Queen's that have ever ruled are from either Greece or any kingdom apart from media. She believes that median women are too low and sluts, the only median woman that ever lived in the palace was a concubine of the fifth rank the lowest rank ever" Sybil said with regrets.

Nephrite looked away.

Sybil smile when she saw her words taking effects on Nephrite. "Do you want to guess what happens to her?" she asked.

"She survived?" Nephrite asked hopefully.

Sybil laughed, "No my lady, she died! Of shame nobody respected her. Everyone trampled on her. Even the king rejected her. She was found dead in her room three months after being crowned" Sybil said.

Nephrite gasp, is this what will happen to her if she don't become Queen?

Nephrite couldn't believe her ears. How can the empress say that about her people. Medians are not sluts. Her mother will be horrified to hear all the empress had said about her and their people.

"Nephrite you have to take this palace life serious, she is going to make everything difficult because of you. You need to get the throne. Win the King's heart. Become his wife. You are the most beautiful in the whole kingdom, you have all it takes to be a Queen." Sybil said.

Nephrite frowned.

"But I don't love the king" she whined.

"Nonsense! You can grow to love him. The king is not old as you think, he is just twenty five and you are twenty right?" Sybil asked.

Nephrite nodded. "Then what else do you need? Nephrite!! Listen! The whole world looks down on the medians, your people, your kingdom! Your mother your father, only you can prove to them that medians are strong and not sluts or dirty flees" Sybil advised why can't Nephrite see that being a Queen is the greatest thing she have and will ever do for her people?.

"Brace yourself because nothing is going to be the same Empress Avanti will do anything within her powers not to see you as Queen. I will also help you for it will be over my dead body that I will see that Melanie rule" Sybil cursed.

Nephrite went to her room dejected. So that is what they think? She have always wondered why the whole maidens Look at her with disdain, now she knows the reason.

They actually think she is a slut. The whole world look down on the medians calling them flee, sluts, dirty animals?.

Nephrite thought about her mother crying as she left, saying her daughter should make her proud. Her father blessing her and saying he knows she will rule one day.

It has to change never will she let anyone look down on her.

Never!!! She will rule, yes she will. Gone are the days people look down on her, her people, her kingdom. No more will anyone insult them. There and then Nephrite swore to do everything within her powers to become Queen. Whether the Empress or Melanie likes it, she Nephrite will rule.........

Alias entered her lady room and found her reading The Chronicles Of Babylon. She smile. She was indeed happy that at last Nephrite was taking it serious.

"My Lady!" she says bowing.

"Yes, Alias?" Nephrite ask.

"All the maidens have been summoned to the Harlan, first thing tomorrow morning" Alias said bowing.

"Okay then, make sure to prepare my clothes now, I can't afford to be late." Nephrite said with so much determination.....
