King Lucas sat firmly forward, as he observed the intruders. The man who had just announced their arrival, stood looking him in the eye. King Alexander on the other hand, was smiling up at Fay. Fay edged closer to her father and all present in the room, stood still from shock. Demons were notorious beings. Their blood lust was more horrific and merciless than even vampires. Their craze for chaos and pain was famous across the realms and most only came into contact with them through war. Their presence only ever brought about trouble and people were weary of them. Aware of the possible trouble and wanting to uphold the fairy values of peace, Lucas saw it best to take a calm approach.
"How may we be of service to you, King Alexander," Lucas asked Alexander, directly.
But Alexander did not answer him. He was too engrossed in watching Fay. Sensing the rising tension building around his daughter, Lucas became protective and stern. The other man spoke up in his place.
"His highness King Alexander, has brought gifts for the Princess Fay, that come from all across the realm and are only of the highest quality," He said.
This situation was not unlike anything Lucas had been in before. There had been many threats to their neutral life and as king, Lucas had to deal with them appropriately. He had been thought well by his father, the previous king. Despite his desire to protect his daughter, he knew this was a perfect opportunity for Fay to learn how to deal with such threats. He took his daughters hand and held it up and out in front of her, indicating for her to stand up. She did as told and stood, but remained close to her father.
Having being taught the importance of manners, Fay bowed her head once, to Alexander.
"Thank you, your grace. I'm flattered by your generosity," She said, her voice a little shaky from nerve.
"You are most welcome," Alexander finally said, with a bow.
"To what do we owe, such a display of kindness?" Asked Lucas.
"King Alexander admires your peace keeping life and believes that your values would be better protected if you have allies who are willing to fight for them in your stead," The man said.
"We do. The vampires, have sworn to protect us from harm," Lucas said.
"The vampires have only made a promise, they have to ties or links to the fairy's that would oblige them to take action. Their intervention would be purl out of choice. They are also very occupied at war, so you're safety would not be their main priority. King Alexander believes you should have proper security and allies who are bond by law to protect you," He argued.
"An excellent observation indeed. But one without a drive or reason. What would your kings opinion mean to any of us. Dose he mean to legally bind himself to protect us?" Lucas asker, angrily.
"He does,"
The whole room was stunned. What could prompt a demon to want to protect the fairy's. It was so out of character that everyone could feel the foreboding.
"He does?" Asked Lucas, completely shocked.
"Yes. His highness wishes to enter into an arrangement with the fairy's, that would guarantee, we come to your aid, when ever needs be,"
That stood out to Lucas. Something did not seem right. In an arrangement, both party's must offer up something in return for something else. They were offering security, so what was Lucas expected to offer up.
"An arrangement?" Lucas asked.
"His highness-"
"Marry me," Alexander announced, gazing up at Fay.
Fay could feel her legs go weak, so grabbed onto the edge of her father's throne. Lucas placed his hand over his daughters on the arm of the throne.
"I seen you once. A year ago exactly today. We were both attending a ball in the shape shifters realm. The moment I saw you, I knew you were meant to be mine. I had never seen someone so beautiful before. I watched you talk, dance, laugh. A laugh that I live over everyday in my head. I wish to make you laugh and smile for the rest of my life. Please say you'll marry me," He said, stepping towards her and talking her other hand in his.
He smiled down at her, like they were old lovers. Her heart beat against the her ribs and her breathing deepened. She could not possibly marry him. She was going to marry Kai. She loved Kai. She looked into the eyes of a man who was very clearly star struck by her, but she felt nothing for him. She looked down to her father, who was just as shocked as she was.
"I don't know what to say," She muttered to herself.
"Say yes," He pleaded.
Forcing herself to act there and then, she shook her head. Her eyes full of sorrow for the poor man. He was most likely going to be broken hearted ad she did not want to humiliate him in front of the whole room, but she could not accept.
"I can't," She said in a whisper.
She watched as his eyes shifted from pure joy to confusion.
"Why not?" He asked.
"I don't love you," She confessed.
His eyebrows pulled together and his eyes narrowed. She then realised the danger she was in and thought it best not to say anything about Kai, for fear he would hunt them down.
"You can grow to love me," He insisted.
"No, I can't," She said.
She began to pull her hand away, but his grip tightened and he pulled her in.
"Of course you can. You will. We will get married," He ordered.
The man who came with him, noticed the fairy guards gather around and prepare to strike if needs be.
"Your highness. I suggest we allow the princess to prepare herself for marriage and the transition from this court to ours. We should come back in three days to collect the bride, when she is ready," He called out.
Of course he did not care about the princess, but this time they did not have enough guards to protect them. They were out numbered. Next time, they would return with an army. Alexander knew what his advisor was hinting at, so went along.
"You're right John. We are not being fair. My love, you have three more days of loneliness until I return for you. To make the transition a little easier, I shall allow you to bring ten servants. Other fairy's so you will not be alone in your new home," He said.
He placed a kiss on her hand and reluctantly pulled away. He turned on his heel and began to walk down the room. The people with him had left the boxes of gifts and followed after him. John walked behind with two soldiers by his side. As Alexander left the room, John stopped, as did his two soldiers. He turned back around to face Lucas and Fay.
"And if you should refuse to appease my king, there shall be war,"
