Chapter 4

(Erwin POV)

*Day before enrollment*

This is something no one could have expected. Usually we would recruit the people from the newest cadet training corps but that was it. We have never in the history of the survey corps, accepted criminals into our ranks. It's even worse trying to get the other high commanding officers to go along with the idea.

"This is humiliating!" Squad leader Flagon yelled at the meeting "Enrollment of recruits is conducted after the training course, but you want to add them to our ranks and avoid the rules?"

"If there are any objections don't hesitate. They joined us because we threatened them." Commander Shardis said

"How will I explain this to the subordinates?" Flagon asked

"Squad leader Flagon." Erwin started "I understand you perfectly. Currently they don't have any training and that may cause concerns for some time. But certainly they will be a key part of the reform."

"A key part of the reform? I hope that the expedition outside the walls doesn't become their greatest crime of all." Flagon said

*Present day* (Ava POV)

"ATTENTION!!!" The commander shouted "From this day on, these four will fight alongside the survey corps. Alright, introduce yourselves."

I didn't want to go through this. It wasn't necessary but they still wanted us to do it. Levi was on the far left so he had to go first with the introductions. As usual, he looked bored and totally not into what was happening.

"Levi." He said very sternly and unemotional

I could tell that the other members were not very pleased with it and they were whispering amongst each other.

Isabel was next. As always she was very excited to meet new people. Even in the circumstances that we were in. "Isabel Magnolia! Nice to meet ya'!"

Farlan was very calm and tried to be as kind as he could be towards everyone else. "Farlan Church. Pleased to meet all of you."

As expected, the members were still not impressed especially because Farlan had put his hand in the wrong position. I didn't know what to do. I was in between trying to be more kind towards the members and trying to conceal as much about me as possible so tried to go in between.

"I'm Ava." I said sternly at first "It's a pleasure."

No one was impressed at all. Still.

"All right, they will stay in Flagon's squad. Flagon, take care of them." The commander said

"W-what? In MY squad?" Flagon said shocked

"Do you object?" Commander asked

"No sir, I just thought they would be put on Erwin's squad."

"Captain Erwin is working on a new formation for the next expedition. He entrusted the new recruits to you." The commander would always speak in a voice that would terrify even a person with the strongest will of steel. "You will now be responsible for their training. Is that understood?"

"Yes sir! Understood!" Flagon said still nervous about us

"That is all. Each squad should provide a standard report..."

The barracks looked small on the outside but actually contained a lot of living space inside. Each room contained many beds and a space for meeting during breaks in training.

"This is the squad barracks." Flagon said opening the door

"Wow there's a lot of beds!" Farlan said
