Chapter 6

(Ava POV)

Things were going well, it had been hours since the expedition began and hardly any titans had been encountered. As the sun was setting, command decided to hold up in a fort.

"Hey are we gonna be resting at this run-down joint?" Isabel asked tying the horses together and giving them food and water.

"Well, pretty sure no one's been here for at least a year since the last expedition. The walls look pretty battered down but, it looks like they've made good use of these old ruins." Farlan said "Of course, if the titans' attacked the'd be able to break down the walls with ease, but if we spend the night here we should be ok.

"That's right, Titans can't move at night right?" Levi said turning towards them "Even so, we don't know what's going on outside of these walls. Don't let your guard down."

When night finally came, each squad was given a place to sleep, food and water, and blankets to keep warm.

"There we go." Farlan yawned laying back against a wall tuckered out from the expedition so far. "I didn't think it would be that easy to bring down a titan."

"They move faster than I thought, but if it's only one, I can handle it. And Levi sure can handle even more than one." I said taking out a blanket.

"Even against the titans, the invincible Levi and Ava still prevail." Farlan said kind of smiling as he said it

"If you two are with us, it looks like we'll manage to get home alive somehow." Isabel said doubting her own strength.

"I'm sure you two could take down a titan by yourselves, you are both pretty strong. You should have more faith in yourselves.

"If a large group of them show up i'm not sure though." Levi said sitting down on his blanket

"Hey, Farlan." I said "I've been thinking about it but it seems unlikely that he's carrying the documents with him. I mean, if they were so important, why not leave it at the base so in case he's to die at the hands of titans, that they would still get passed down so someone else will deliver them."

"Well, I i'm pretty sure that they are with him." Farlan said "The first time I snuck into his room, I searched all the suspicious places inside it. I hadn't thought it would be easy to find but, there was a surprising amount of unrelated documents scattered everywhere. There was even a drawer that was locked which I opened with a thin piece of metal but there was nothing of importance there. It was almost as if the room was telling me that it wasn't in there."

"The fact that those documents are the only ones missing means that, he's gotta be walking around with them on him right?" Isabel asked finally using her head for once.

"That does make since, and it's also safe to assume that he brought it with him outside of the walls." I said still skeptical on what was happening

"If Erwin was trying to hide something from us outside the corps, then old man Lobov would have definitely found out something by now." Isabel said "Hey, how much of that old man's information can we trust?"

"With the exception of the reward, he wouldn't would he? It wouldn't make since. After all, Erwin did get us into the corps just like he said." Levi said still thinking

"What if it's all a lie to get us arrested?" Isabel asked

"That's unlikely." I said "From a noble's point of view, we're nothing more than worthless insects. If he really wanted to crush us, he wouldn't have put himself through all this trouble."

"Hey listen." Farlan said signaling for us to get close to listen "At any rate, our goal is to find those documents. Earlier, I saw the commander and Erwin go over that way." He said pointing down a corridor. "While they're gone, Isabel and I will search his belongings. Levi, Ava, until I give you guys the signal, you need to watch that corridor. If they happen to come back before I give the signal, you'll have to keep them busy."
