Chapter 5

*A month later*

(Ava POV)

It had been a month since we joined. And we are finally ready for the first expedition.

"OPEN THE GATE!" The commander shouted at the gate keepers.

As the gate started to rise, all four of us knew that we had to make this count. We knew we had to fulfill our mission by the end of the expedition or we would be too late.

"Hey. Now would be a good time. Someone. No way, someone tell me this is all a lie." Farlan said shaking on his horse

"Well it does sound like a made up story doesn't it." Levi said

"A few thugs from the underground going out beyond the walls." I said looking forward as the gate was rising.

"Today we will again, take one step forward! Let's see what your training has taught you!Show them the strength of humanity! All soldiers, ADVANCE!!" The commander shouted

As the horses galloped towards the gate, we watched as the symbol of wall Maria fell behind us and the tunnel leading to the outside grew shorter. And finally we made it outside. It was beautiful. The sky was blue, the clouds in the sky were not too many but not too little, and no matter how far you looked across the horizon, you couldn't see the end of it. There were no walls, no gates, no houses. Just the open air and a few trees in the distance.

"Wow!" Isabel said amazed at the beauty

"Yeah, not bad." Levi said pretty unenthusiastically

"It's even better than I had imagined." I said not even taking my eyes off the sky

"Damn. This is the worst. We actually went outside the walls. According to our plans, we were supposed to have those documents by now, but none of us were able to find it. Even in multiple instances of checking his room." Farlan said disappointed "Where the hell could he be hiding them?"

"I'll take care of the titans." Levi said

"Levi you can't handle all of them." I said

"Do you not trust me?" He asked

"Look I know we all agreed that you would be the best choice as leader for this part of the mission because of the circumstances but we have to work together in order to take down our target." I said slightly scared of what might happen.

"Hey leave them to me Levi!" Isabel said with confidence "I'll kick those Titans' asses, one by one."

"Quit screwing around!!" A member of our squad said "The titans aren't the easy prey you think they are! Do you have any idea of how many excellent soldiers have been devoured by the titans? You thugs from the underground. You're getting too cocky!"

"Hey." Isabel said looking back towards him "When I take down a titan, it's gonna mean all of those guys are less than some thugs."

"W-what did you just say?!! You b-"

I suddenly interfered with them riding in between them to quit any more squabbling between them.

"You bastards..." He started

"Knock it off Sayram!" The squad leader said

"But squad leader!" Sayram started

"Calm down! For now, remain in the new formation that was practiced! We don't know when the titans will appear, so don't break formation. Once they actually fight some real titans, they'll change their tune. There's a difference between practice and the real thing, after all."
