Camila
Lauren must have thought I was a fool when we were on the plane. I knew she was jealous of the flight attendant and that she had faked being sick just to get a rise out of the woman. I think she honestly forgot that I knew her more than she knew herself right now.
Though, I wasn't falling far behind in the jealousy department. I saw the message Lauren got from Lucy. I didn't see what it said, but seeing Lucy's name had triggered me and I had felt the green monster rise inside my being. It was what had prompted me to ask Lauren if Lucy was the reason... Seeing the way Lauren reacted, only confirmed it for me. Lauren didn't have to say it for it to be confirmed. Her actions spoke louder than any words could. Of course Lucy had to be the one to have caused issues for us. Just when we were getting somewhere, Lucy had to come in between and ruin the progress we had made.
Usually I would have wallowed in self-pity and cried myself to sleep until I could move on from it, maybe even get myself drunk to numb the pain. Instead of letting the spat we had burn everything down to the ground, I let it fuel my pursuit of Lauren. I spent the last two days, hardly sleeping between the concerts, soundchecks and meet and greets, just so I could plan the perfect birthday for Lauren. Being miles and miles away from home, I knew she would probably end being sad and depressed. It had happened once or twice on birthdays or special days that her family and she had.
Trying to avoid that this year, I got the girls help to plan the whole thing. Lauren was afraid of heights, but she always wanted to go bungee jumping. So I had found a company who could set it up for us. We had it for about four hours and if Lauren wanted it for longer than that, I was more than willing to pay to see her happy.
Getting the plan in motion had been easy, but getting Lauren to get up early would be another thing. She was the grumpiest when she first woke up and it tended to last until breakfast was over or till the morning had turned into afternoon. I just hoped that with today being her birthday, she wouldn't be so difficult. Especially since it was going to be an early day as well.
Figuring the heat would be overbearing the later on it was in the day, we planned for everything to be early. Then come back to the hotel to maybe take a nap or relax before we would go out to dinner.
That's why I was on my to Lauren's room with a cupcake in one hand and a lighter in the other. I knew it was beautiful outside from the view I had through my window and I knew Lauren would love to see the sunrise and have a cup of coffee. It was something we had done multiple times in the past, specifically when we had been together. We would share a sunrise together while having a cup of coffee and maybe some kisses that led to other things.
I knocked three times on Lauren's door then I lit the candle that was on the cupcake. It didn't take long for the door to open with Lauren on the other side, holding a phone to her face. Shock was evident on her face.
"Happy birthday Lauren!" I whisper-yelled.
Lauren's look of shock transformed into a big genuine smile. It made my heart swell to see her so happy and surprised by my action.
"Make a wish," I urged, pushing the cupcake more into her direction. She closed her eyes and blew out the lonely candle.
"Guys? I have to go. Camz is here." Lauren told the person or people on the phone. Assuming she had hung up the call, Lauren threw her arms around me, thanking me a lot as she hugged. Not ready for her to hug me, I barely had time to move the cupcake out of the way so I wouldn't drop it. "Thank you so much Camz." She said once more.
She leaned out of the hug just as quickly as she had started it.
"No need to thank me. It's what friends are for. Birthdays are such special markers in life that need to be celebrated. You taught me that."
