Sophie's POV:

His lips crashed into mine and I froze. I wasn't expecting this to happen. He pulls away and breaks the kiss. He stares at me for a while before I break the silence.

"We can't-"

"I know, I know." He interrupts.

"Then why did you just kiss me?"

"It just felt right."

I'm so confused. He's ignored me for months and then just kisses me? And after I just told him that our siblings are dating. This is so wrong.

"You can't just walk back into my life like this."

"But I love you."

"No you don't." And with that I walk out the door and down the street.

I walk all the way to the park. It's grown to be my favourite place and there is a particular spot near the trees which I'm particularly fond of. It has a little gap in between two trunks and you can sit and view the sunset from it.

I decide to run there and just sit for a while. Tears end up streaming down my face. I never realised how much Ethan meant to me. And it hurts knowing that he might've felt the same. But the worst feeling is knowing that it will never happen nor work.

"I knew you'd show up here." Ethan's voice echoes off of the branches but I don't bother facing him.

"Sophie, please talk to me."

I turn around and just give up. I just scream and shout and cry.

"You ignored me for months. I thought I'd done something wrong. I thought you hated me. Then you kiss me? After I told you about Liv and George? No."

"You want to know why?"

"Yes."

He takes a sharp breath and in one long breath he says -
"That girl I told you I liked yeah? She's you. That's why they can't date."

"I guess it's too late." I whisper

"It's not, we could just pretend we're not together and when they break up-"

"I'm not doing this." I say getting up

"Why?"

"They're happy, leave them be."

"But we aren't happy,"

"Life's unfair Ethan."

He looks at me like I just shattered his heart. I don't mean to hurt him but he needs to hear this.

"I want you." He says softly, grabbing my arm. His other hand brushes the hair out of my face and he looks down at me.

"We can't-" I start.

"Shh, I know maybe we can't but I want this moment. With you."

He stares at me for a while and I can't help but laugh.

"What are you staring at?" I giggle.

"You. You're beautiful."

Now it's me who's being misleading. I relax into him and let his arms enclose me. Maybe he's right, maybe we are meant to be and they're not. But what can we do? It's a bit late now.
