I watched as my mum and Ashton got on really well. I felt so happy, and relieved that they were getting on. "So, where's you man, mum?" I asked smirking, as she put mine and Ash's drinks she'd just made down on the table, "thanks."

"It's okay and he's just getting ready," she replied, beaming at us.

"Is he getting ready because we're here?" I asked, "Because if he is, it really doesn't matter. He doesn't have to get all dressed up or anything."

Mum shrugged, "I think he wanted to make a good impression, Lils. I said that he didn't need to make a massive effort, but he wanted to." Mum never stopped smiling whilst she was talking about her boyfriend. "So, what's his name, Mum?" I asked.

"He's called Miles," she replied, still grinning. I smiled, feeling so happy for her.

"Aww, I can't wait to meet him, seriously."

All of a sudden, I heard someone coming down the stairs, so I turned around. Walking down the stairs was my mum's boyfriend. He was actually quite good looking, he was tall and dark, with stubble. He looked quite rugged, but not scruffy. His hair was a dark brown, flecked with some grey, but it suited him. You know when some men just suit grey? I smiled, "Hi, Miles. It's really nice to meet you!" I said, extending my hand, which me shook. "Hey, Lily. It's great to meet you, it really is. I've heard so much about you!" he laughed, turning to Ashton, "And this is?" he asked, very politely. Ashton smiled and extended him hand, "I'm Ash, Lily's boyfriend."

Miles shook his hand and nodded, "Ahh, I've heard a bit about you, too. Sorry, I didn't want to sound rude by asking who you were," he said.

Ash shook his head, "No, it's fine." He smiled.

We all talked for a bit about lots of things like, Uni, my exam, Ashton, Miles, relationships, work and apartments etc. I looked at my watch, it was 12. I turned to Ash and said quietly, "When do you wanna leave?" I asked him. He took my wrist and examined my watch, looking at it for a second. Looking back up at me he said, "We probably should be getting off soon. But I don't want to drag you away from your mum. So, whenever? We'll still get to Paris, I promise baby." He pecked me on the cheek.

"You guys okay?" my mum asked. I turned to Ash, looking at him in a do-we-tell-her? way. Ash exhaled heavily and said to me, "Wanna tell her?" I looked over at my mum and hesitated. She raised her eyebrows at me. "Yeah, we're fine. It's just that. We kind of need to go soon, I'm sorry. We'll come and see you again soon," I replied.

"Oh, that's a shame. Where do you have to go?" she asked me, standing up.

"We are supposed to be going to Paris today, mum. I'm really sorry that I didn't say."

Her eyes lit up, "Oh Paris, wow! Lucky pair. I haven't been for ages. Well, there really isn't need to apologise. You don't need to tell me whenever you make plans, honey. It's fine! Just make sure that you enjoy yourselves," she gave me and Ash a double hug.

"Bye, Miles. It was great meeting you!" I said.

"You too, Lily. See you again soon, yeah? Have fun in Paris, guys," he said, giving me a quick hug.

"Bye, it was nice meeting you today," Ash said to Miles, shaking his hand.

"Look after her," my mum said to Ashton. He put his arm around me, "I will protect her will my life, I promise."

My mum narrowed her eyes, "Hm, good. Well have fun. See you guys soon and enjoy!"

"We will, bye mum," I gave her a quick hug before leaving and driving off, on route to Paris.
