Day 29
Ross’s POV
Clock’s ticking. Today’s the day that all will be revealed. No more secrets to be kept hidden under the shadows. It wouldn’t be easy for me and for Grace. The only way that she would know everything was to sit with the other people who were involved in our mess - Liam and Andrea. I turned to look at the clock on the bedside table. It was still three in the morning. Might as well start the day early since I couldn’t keep my mind off things. The comfort of baking would buy me a lot of time to think about the things that needed to be thought of.
I got the ingredients from the cupboard and decided to make the buns that Grace had when I first lived here. I wanted to give her something good to remember. As I made the dough, I put all the force that I had into kneading it. All the anxiety, the anger and the frustration that made me feel a lot like hell was slowly starting to slip away from my hands. I leave the dough to rise a bit as I covered the bowl with plastic wrap then went on to making the filling of the buns.
Getting enough zest from the oranges and grinding it with the cranberries, I thought about the possibility of me living with Grace happily slipping away. I for one didn’t want that to happen. I am happy with how things are. She started to open about the life that we were going to have in the future though it was clearly uncertain. After a couple of minutes, the dough was ready to be filled with the cranberries. I got a rolling pin and started to flatten everything until I ended up cutting the dough into strips and putting the cranberries on them and rolling them. After I placed them on a pan that I later placed inside the oven, I poured myself a cup of hot water and I dipped my tea bag in it.
I sat on the chair trying to remember the things that happened in the flat. This was third to the last day here. Trevor and Kat will be arriving in the evening of the thirty-first. All I can say is that I am happy to have been with her. No matter what happens today, I’m sure the memories that we shared won’t easily be forgotten by her. Waiting for the buns to bake was proving to be long. It bought me a lot of time to imagine what could happen when things are different; when Grace decides to accept everything that would happen later with an open mind. A guy could only hope that we won’t be ending everything in a fight. Athena might kill me if I won’t be able to bring her maid of honor for the wedding.
I heard the ring of the oven timer. It was time for me to get the buns from the oven to let them cool down. As I turned to place them on the kitchen counter, I was greeted by a smile from my queen who was now walking towards me. I figured that I was the luckiest bastard in the whole world. When she got beside me, she rested her head on my chest and her arms wrapped around my waist from the side.
“Good morning,” she lazily greeted. I placed a kiss on top of her head and rubbed her shoulder with my free hand.
“Good morning baby.”
“I watched you making the buns. Is everything okay?” she asked worriedly. She raised her head so that I can meet her gaze.
“Nope, everything is going fine. It’s just I’m caught up with a lot of things at work. Don’t worry about me.” You are a terrible liar, Ross Matthews!
“Oh,” she replied. I can tell that she didn’t want to let it go but she did anyway.
