CHAPTER 10
The next morning Skyler sat at the kitchen table with her head tilled and resting on her arm as she tried hard to remember the night before. Sandra sat quietly across from Skyler and sipped the hot chocolate Skyler's mother had prepared for them.
Skyler's mother then entered the room wearing a a small sun dress with a floral design on it. She dark skinned seemed smooth and vibrant as the dress hugged her body perfectly. She loved her mother's clothes, but thought they were to flashy and a little embarrassing. Her mother always was in style before the style she wore was placed out in for the public. She walked up to the stove and served herself a cup of hot chocolate and looked down at the kitchen table and noticed only paper plates and plastic dinning utensils on the table.
“I can't believe today's the day.”
Skyler then jerked up and noticed the table as well and looked surprised as she watched Sandra eat her breakfast off a paper plate.
“Me neither.” said Skyler with a sad expression.
Later after breakfast Skyler and Sandra walked back up stairs into Skyler's bedroom where she finished packing the rest of her belongings into boxes. Sandra looked all around the walls of Skyler's bedroom and saw many posters, pictures of the walls and tucked away into dark boxes.
“So what time will you be leaving?” asked Sandra trying hard not to sound sad.
“Right after Extreme, so I guess midnight.”
“I'm going to miss you a lot.”
“Please. With mom reminding me today in the morning is going to make it much more difficult to go through the day. Don't remind me. Just enjoy the day like I will be here tomorrow. Okay.” said Skyler trying hard not to look at Sandra's sad expression.
“Here.” said Sandra as she handed Skyler a pink pin button with writing on it that said,
“Best friends forever.”
Skyler looked up at Sandra and smiled as tears began to roll down her eyes. Sandra then wrapped her arms around her and said tears in her eyes as well,
“Don't forget me.”
Skyler nodded as she hugged her back and whipped her tears way. She pinned the pink button through her nice green tank top and smiled.
“It's horrible and big.”
Sandra laughed as she knew that Skyler was only trying to warm up the moment with her last humor.
“But it looks good on you.”
Skyler smiled and grabbed her messenger bag that sat on the top of her dresser and placed it over her shoulder and turned back to Sandra and said,
