"maya, it'll be good for you to get away for awhile." lucas says walking into her room.
"i don't wanna go anywhere. i wanna stay here." maya mumbles.
"your mom wouldn't want you to stop living your life just because she's gone." he says.
"don't tell me what my mom wouldn't want! you don't know what she would want for me! you barely knew her!" she shouts sitting up on her bed.
"i'm just trying to help. come with us, you'll love it at the cabin." he says sitting down on the edge of her bed.
"i just don't wanna leave. this is the place that we were together last." she sighs.
"i thought you were there at the hospital when she died." he says.
"i was but this was the last place we were together with good memories. she held me here when she told me that she was sick. we watched movies and made cupcakes and cookies. i don't wanna leave, lucas." she says tears rolling down her cheeks.
"come here. she'd want you to come with us. please maya, we're all here for you." lucas says pulling maya into a hug.
"okay." maya mumbles with her face pressed against his chest. lucas sighs and kisses a random spot of maya's hair.
"want me to help you pack? we leave tomorrow morning." lucas asks and maya nods breaking away from their embrace. she wipes her tears away sniffles.
"thank you." she says to lucas.
"anything for you, come on. you should bring some warm clothes, it's kinda cold up there." he says standing up and going over to the closet reaching up for maya's suitcase.
"you're so tall, it's not fair dude." she pouts.
"so what do you wanna pack? sweatpants? leggings? jeans? sweatshirts?" he asks.
"ooh! can i wear your texas rangers sweatshirt? that one is so comfy!" she smiles.
"i was gonna wear that one! it's the warmest one i have." he frowns.
"lucas please! my mother just died, the least you can do is let me wear your sweatshirt." she frowns.
"fine pancakes, fine." he says rolling his greens eyes playfully.
"yay!" maya squeals jumping up and down.
for the next few hours, lucas helps maya pack her bag for the weekend. she packs a few pairs of jeans and leggings, many pairs of sweatpants, and tons of sweaters and sweatshirts.
"you should probably bring a blanket." he says. "wanna bring this one?" he asks holding up a plaid blanket. maya's smile turns into a frown and tears come to her eyes.
"yeah, i wanna bring that one." maya croaks out.
"what's wrong? don't cry." lucas says putting the blanket down.
"that was my mom's favorite blanket. it smells exactly like her." she sniffles.
"okay, we'll pack this one. it seems like you've got everything packed up, do you want me to leave you alone?" he asks zipping up her suitcase.
"can you stay please?" she asks. "maybe we can just go to riley's together or ride together tomorrow?" she suggests.
"of course. wanna go to bed or watch a movie?" he smiles.
"i'm kinda tired huckleberry, can we just lay down until i fall asleep?" she asks.
"sure. come here pancakes." he smiles laying down on her bed and opening his arms. maya smiles slightly and lays down next to him. he wraps his arms around her and she snuggles into his chest.
