lucas and jessie were a very cute couple. everyone seemed to think so. everyone except maya. maya was terribly in love with lucas and it killed her to see him happy with someone else. every time that he wanted to hang out she had to figure out an excuse not to go. she couldn't bare to see him with someone else. talk about how beautiful jessie was, or how kind and smart she was. she was the complete opposite of maya and that killed her because she knew that he could never love her the way she loved him.

it was friday morning and maya was getting ready for school. she did not wanna go or see lucas and she almost broke down crying at the thought of it. maya got dressed in black ripped jeans and a flannel. she put her black heeled booties on and left her hair down with a makeup free face.

"morning babygirl." katy says from the kitchen.

"hi mom. i gotta get going. i love you." maya says kissing her mom's cheek and walking out of the apartment. she didn't feel like picking up riley this morning so she just headed straight to school. this whole lucas thing had made her quite depressed and lonely. it sucked loving someone that will never love you back.

when maya walks into the school lucas gets distracted by how beautiful she looks. her beautiful makeup free face leaves him in awe.

"hey baby." jessie says kissing lucas's cheek.

"oh hi." lucas says blinking and focusing on his girlfriend.

"what's going through that cute little head of yours?" she asks leaning onto his shoulder.

"nothing. just thinking about penelope." he sighs.

"who's penelope?" she asks confused. lucas didn't realize that she didn't know his nickname for maya.

"maya." he answers.

"why're you thinking about her?"

"because she's one of my best friends and she seems sad lately. she keeps ignoring me and i miss her. she's just worrying me that's all." he sighs.

"i'm sure she's fine. mays's a big girl, if something was bothering her i'm sure she'd tell you." jessie says. lucas almost involuntarily rolls his eyes. jessie doesn't know how maya is, she doesn't talk about things when they're bothering her, lucas knows that but jessie does not. maya walks over to the friend group and smiles at everyone besides lucas.

"hey pancakes." lucas smiles.

"uh hi lucas." maya says quietly looking at the ground.

"what no nicknames?" lucas grins. maya just looks at him and walks away storming into the bathroom with tears in her eyes.

"i'll go talk to her." riley smiles nervously and then follows maya into the bathroom. "hi peaches. what's wrong?"

"i love him so much and it actually kills me to see him with her." maya cries. riley's heart basically breaks and she pulls her best friend into a tight hug. maya cries into her shoulder and basically just breaks down. "i wanna go home, honey."

"you can't just skip school, peaches."

"but i don't wanna be here. i can't be here."

"okay, i'll tell my dad. want me to get zay to walk you home?"

"if you want to. but i'll be fine." maya says wiping her face.

"okay lets go peaches." riley smiles grabbing maya's hand and taking her out of the bathroom. they walk back to the group and maya keeps her head down. "zay, will you walk maya home?"

"of course, but why is she going home?" zay asks confused.

"she isn't feeling too well. will you just walk her home please?" riley asks again nicely.

"i'll do it." lucas suggests. maya looks up with wide eyes and shakes her head at riley.

"zay can do it." riley says.

"well if lucas is offering he can. i mean i love you maya, but i can't really miss school." zay says.

"it's fine, i'll walk by myself. bye everyone." maya says quietly before leaving the school.

"come on babe, let's get to class." jessie says grabbing lucas's hand.

"i'm sorry, i have to go check on maya." lucas says running out of the school leaving jessie confused and slightly angry. lucas runs out of the school and sees maya's tiny body in the distance. he runs up to her and sees that she's crying.

"pancakes, what's wrong?" lucas asks.

"can you please just leave me alone? i don't wanna see you." she cries.

"what did i do wrong? we were best friends maya, now we never talk! what did i do wrong?" he asks now becoming angry.

"you made me fucking love you! i'm in love with you, hopelessly, desperately in love with you and you love someone else! it kills me to even see you! it kills me to see you kiss jessie, or cuddle her, or hug her, or smile at her! it fucking kills me! you love someone that's perky and kind and sweet. someone who's tall and thin and tan. you love someone who is the complete opposite of me! how do you think that makes me feel, lucas? so that's what you did wrong! you made me fall hopelessly in love with you!" maya sobs. lucas can't believe the words he's hearing from her mouth. she loves him? she thinks he doesn't love her back?

"goodbye lucas and do not follow me!" she cries running as fast as she can in her high heels. he stands there for awhile and then finally runs to mays's house. maya is already inside and crying loudly on her couch.

"maya penelope hart open this door right now!" lucas shouts behind the door.

"lucas go away! i don't wanna fucking see you!" she screams.

"i don't fucking care! open the door!" he shouts. maya groans and gets up before opening the door.

"what the hell do you want from me?" maya asks her voice cracking. lucas grabs her face and slams his lips onto hers. maya is shocked but then slowly reciprocates. she wraps her arms around his neck as his hands entangle in her hair. they pull away for air and they both looked completely shocked.

"i love you maya penelope hart. i don't love jessie, i love you. i've always loved you, i've always loved everything about you. please let me love you." he says against her lips. she nods her head and puts her lips back on his. he lifts her up as she wraps her legs around his torso. he lifts her shirt above her head before carrying her to her room.

that night, maya's cries weren't the loudest thing you could hear in the apartment.

"you just cheated on your girlfriend." maya giggles.

"i'll break up with her first thing tomorrow. because i love you, maya penelope hart." he says pulling her onto his bare chest.

"i love you too, lucas tristin friar." she smiles before kissing him again.

what a cute couple they'll be.
