happy birthday

it had been weeks maybe even months since maya and lucas had last spoken. maya didn't know what happened but she had asked him one day if they were okay and it had all went downhill from there. he said rude things to her which made maya cry in her bed for days. he had said that she was obsessed with him and that her sarcastic and feisty personality had become annoying. of course he said it in the privacy of his own text messages with zay but since he was blabbermouth babineaux, he ended up telling maya not realizing how much it would hurt her. all of maya's guy friends would all avoid her in front of lucas but would secretly talk to her which just pissed her off more. she could only count on riley which wasn't a surprise, but she still wished she had a few more people by her side. especially today.

today was maya's birthday. maya was not looking forward to it at all considering most of her friends wouldn't be celebrating with her anymore. she missed them. she missed farkle's comments that no one understood and she missed zay's nicknames for her and his hilarious jokes that somehow always cheered her up. but most importantly she missed lucas. she missed his hugs and she missed their weird conversations. she missed their nicknames for one another and how he was always there for maya no matter what. always there except for now she guessed. she just wanted her huckleberry back.

maya sighed as she got out of bed and went to the kitchen as she yawned. when she walked into the kitchen she saw everyone she loved standing there.

"happy birthday maya!" they all screamed. everyone was there. riley, her mom, shawn, the matthews, even farkle and zay. but no lucas. she had wished lucas a happy birthday even when they weren't talking because she didn't wanna miss his day but apparently he didn't feel the same way at all.

"thank you guys." she smiled walking over to them. she gave everyone a hug and when she got to riley she could see the sadness in her eyes.

"i'm sorry he's not here peaches. i told him about it." riley said frowning.

"it's okay. i didn't except him to be here anyway." maya lied blinking her tears away. she didn't wanna cry in front of everyone especially when they took their time to be there with her. she sat down and opened all her gifts. maya plastered fake smiles on her face every time she opened a new gift. she was truly thankful for each and every one but she just didn't feel like celebrating today.

"so maya we're gonna take you out to dinner tonight!" katy said clapping her hands.

"you guys really don't have to do that. i'm fine with just doing nothing." she said looking up at everyone.

"nonsense! we're taking you out kiddo!" shawn said rubbing her back.

"but for now, i'm gonna make you some breakfast honey!" topanga said. maya just nodded and smiled.

after topanga made maya pancakes for breakfast, which made maya wanna cry even more, the matthews left. after they left, maya went to her room with her mom following her. she plopped down on her bed with a sigh.

"babygirl what's wrong? you got tons of presents and we're taking you out to dinner. why are you so glum?" katy asked sitting down on the edge of maya's bed.

"nothing mom. i'm fine." she says.

"i know when you're lying honey. i've known you your whole life." she says laughing.

"really mom? i didn't know." maya said sarcastically rolling her eyes teasingly.

"but seriously, what's wrong?" her mother asked.

"i just miss someone that's all." she said looking away from her mother.

"lucas?" she asks and maya nods. "babygirl i'm sorry. i know that what happened awhile ago was really hard for you but it's been a few months now. are you ever gonna get over it?" she asks rubbing her back.
