pool party

saying maya was nervous was an understatement. today was missy bradford's annual end of the year pool party. maya wasn't nervous because of how she looked in a bikini. she knew she looked damn good in a bikini. that wasn't the problem. her problem was with the water. she unfortunately didn't know how to swim. she never had the chance to learn as a kid. her dad had left her and her mom was always working. there was never the time to learn how to swim, especially in new york. she didn't wanna go at all, but riley convinced her. riley didn't know that she couldn't swim, none of her friends did. she refused to tell any of them. maya was not one for embarrassment. maya so badly wanted to stay home and watch one tree hill, but riley wouldn't let her.

so here she is standing in front of her full length mirror staring at herself in her black bikini. she turned to the side to check out her ass and she couldn't lie about the fact that it looked great. her body looked great, but she was still just so nervous. farkle, riley, and lucas were on their way to come pick her up so she slid a coverup on over her swimsuit and slipped on some flip flops. her wavy blonde locks were in two french braids and her face was makeup free. maya felt her phone buzz and she looked down to see that riley had texted her.

maya exited her apartment and went down to farkle's car. she saw that riley and farkle were in the front so she got in the back with lucas.

"hey losers!" maya shouts getting into the car.

"hi peaches! aren't you super excited for the party? i am!" riley squeals turning her head to face maya in the back seat.

"uh yeah you could say that riles." maya says with a tight smile putting her seatbelt on. thankfully, riley doesn't notice maya's fake smile, but lucas does.

"are you okay penelope?" lucas whispers to her.

"of course ranger rick! why wouldn't i be?" maya asks looking at him.

"just making sure." he says. on the way to the party the core four sing along to many summer songs and basically have a party in the car.

"alright guys! we're here!" farkle says once they arrive to missy's house. they all get out of the car and farkle and riley start to walk into the party with maya and lucas following. when they get in the house, missy greets them. they all go into the backyard and meet up with other friends. maya takes off her coverup and takes her hair out of her braids. she sits by the edge of the pool and puts her feet in the water.

lucas stands by the back door just looking at maya speechless. she looks so beautiful and happy in her bikini and blonde locks blowing in the wind. what lucas didn't know was that maya was basically dying inside. she was just too worried that someone was gonna come by her and push her in. so, she got up and went to go get a drink. she gets up and goes to stand by lucas.

"hey hucks! will you hand me a drink?" she asks smiling.

"of course pancakes. punch or soda?" he asks.

"punch!" she says. lucas hands her the drink and they both chat for awhile.

"wanna go for a swim?" he asks.

"um not really." she says biting her lower lip.

"why not penelope?" lucas asks noticing her look of worry. maya thinks to herself before finally telling him.

"you can't tell anyone! lucas, i'm serious." she says looking into his eyes. lucas nods because he knows that she is being serious since she called him by his name. "i can't swim." she mumbles.

"what? i can't hear you." he asks again.

"i can't swim." maya whispers and lucas just nods. "please don't tell anyone."

"i promise i won't. your secret is safe with me penelope." he smiles. "wanna go play basketball?"

"against you? i'm gonna lose but fine!" she giggles and they head to the basketball court in missy's backyard.

about fifteen minutes later you'll find maya whining and struggling to make a basket.

"maya, here let me show you how to play." lucas chuckles. he stands behind maya and shows her how to shoot the basket.

"okay now place your hands on the ball like this." he whispers in her ear. "then shoot it like this." he says helping her shoot the ball. she makes it and smiles while looking at him. they're faces are close enough that she can feel his hot breath on her face. they both lean in but break apart when they hear riley calling her name from the pool.

"i'm just gonna go see what riles did. thanks for the game hucks." she smiles before walking away to the pool. lucas smiles to himself watching her walk away.

"maya! come swim with me!" riley shouts from the pool with farkle.

"maybe later honey." maya smiles nervously. in that moment two boys come up behind her and push her into the pool. maya screams as she hits the water. of course they just had to push her into the deep part of the pool and due to mays's height, she can't touch the bottom. she flails all her limbs around trying to get her head above the water to call for help but then realizes that no one knows that she can't swim. lucas hears maya scream and runs to the pool. he sees maya's blonde hair in the water and jumps in the pool to save her. maya feels arms lift her up before her eyes close and she can't breathe anymore. lucas pulls her out of the water and places her down on the ground.

"you morons! she can't swim! you could've killed her!" lucas yells at the two jocks that pushed her in the pool.

"we just wanted hart to have some fun." they laugh.

"so maya almost dying is fun to you!" he shouts. when he sees maya not waking up he gives her mouth to mouth. maya coughs up water before opening her eyes. "oh thank god." he says before pulling her into a hug.

"thank you so much lucas." she says with tears coming to her eyes and tightening her arms around his neck.

"always penelope. always." he says rubbing her back.

"peaches! are you okay? i didn't know you couldn't swim!" riley yells hugging her.

"i'm fine riles. lucas saved me." she smiles at lucas.

after maya dried off, lucas decided to take her home. maya rested her head against the window and closed her eyes.

"hey so maya, maybe i can teach you how to swim sometime." lucas chuckles glancing at maya.

"yeah that seems like a good idea." maya giggles.
