mistletoe

christmas time in new york city was a dream and a nightmare at the same time. it was always cold outside and it snowed quite a lot. but the lights and christmas trees and all the hot cocoa completely made up for the cold weather. maya was never a fan of the holidays to be honest. when her father had left her and her mom, money was tight. her mom couldn't really afford enough gifts for maya to have a good christmas. but katy always found a way to give her everything she needed. lucas on the other hand, loved the holidays. christmas in texas was magical for him and he was always a sucker for that kind of stuff.

the only thing maya ever looked forward to was riley's annual christmas party. it was always super fun for maya no matter what. but this year, maya wasn't looking forward to seeing a certain someone. that certain someone just happens to be lucas. so far this holiday season, every time they've met has been under an unfortunate green plant. an unfortunate green plant that according to like the laws of life you must kiss under. let's go back to their first encounter.

mistletoe encounter #1

maya walked into the school and quickly took off her gloves and fixed her wind blown hair. she saw riley standing at her locker and a smile grew on her face.

"hey riles!" she says approaching her best friend.

"hi peaches!" riley says with a smile and quickly hugging her best friend. "aw your cheeks are all red! is it cold?"

"no riles it's just snowing and very windy outside." maya responds sarcastically.

"okay okay, let's go see our boys." riley says locking her arm with maya as they walk to the guys' lockers.

"hey boys." maya says with a small smile.

"hello short stack." lucas says smirking slightly.

"what's up with that face?" maya says pointing at him.

"look up penelope." he says pointing above them. on the inside of zay's locker was a little mistletoe and lucas and maya had been standing right under it.

"no! i'm not kissing you huckleberry!" maya shouts.

"maya, rules are rules." farkle says trying not to laugh.

"shut it minkus." maya snaps making him step back in fear.

"it's just one little kiss sugar, it's not gonna hurt you." zay says crossing his arms.

"no. i'm not gonna do it. when have i ever been one to follow the rules?" maya asks.

"okay how about i just kiss you on the cheek? that way your lips won't come in any contact with mine or even me." lucas says chuckling lightly.

"fine." maya huffs. lucas laughs and kisses her cheek softly. maya feels a weird feeling in the pit of her stomach and she feels her cheeks heat up.

"is miss maya hart blushing? from me kissing her?" lucas asks putting his hand over his heart over dramatically.

"no! it's because it's cold outside! don't flatter yourself heehaw!" maya scoffs before taking riley's arm and pulling her to class.

"i hope i never see another mistletoe ever again." maya mumbles to herself.

so on to encounter number two. you would think that these two would try not to stand next to each other anymore, but they didn't quite get the hint and this time was a little different.

today was the day that lucas and maya were going to study together after school at topanga's. they both had to do a project for spanish and since that was the only class maya was good at, lucas needed her help. so they both just decided to work together.
