blood drive

"hell no huckleberry!" maya shouts.

"maya it's for a good cause! i'll go in with you." lucas says trying to persuade maya.

"i'm terrified of needles! and i'm tiny! i barely have any blood in me anyway." she says making lucas laugh.

"we'll get to see deadpool for free." he says with a cheeky smile.

"ugh fine. i'll do it just for ryan reynolds." she says sighing.

"let's go then penelope!" he says making her glare at him.

"call me that again and you're gonna be the one losing blood today." maya says smiling before hopping into lucas's truck. he hops into the driver seat and drives them both to the blood drive.

when they get there, maya is shaking in her seat.

"i can't do this. i can't fucking do this lucas." maya says taking deep breaths.

"look at me. you're maya penelope hart, you're a badass, you can do anything." he says looking into her eyes.

"not anything! i can't do needles!" she says freaking out.

"come on, i'll be there the whole time." he says as he gets out of the car. she nods hesitantly and gets out with him. they go inside and a nurse leads them to a chair. maya sits down and bounces her leg up and down until lucas places his hand over it. maya's heart stops and looks down at his hand.

"hey there's no need to worry." he says softly. maya swallows the lump in her throat and nods. the nurse walks over to her and cleans her arm and gets everything prepped and ready to go.

"are you ready sweetheart?" the nurse asks nicely and maya nods hesitantly. the nurse gets the needle out and lucas can see the color drain from maya's face.

"hey don't look at the needle. look at me. look into my eyes and everything's gonna be okay." lucas says grabbing her hand and her face making her look at him. she looks into his eyes and she can feel herself melt into them.

"thank god you're here." she whispers quietly under her breath making lucas chuckle.

"i'm right here." he says rubbing circles on the back of her hand lightly.

"i'm thinking about ryan reynolds heehaw, that's why i'm doing this." she says giggling.

after the nurse is done, she gives maya some juice and a cookie and tells her to stay put for a little bit.

"here. take this." maya says giving lucas her orange juice.

"no! you need to drink that to get your blood sugar up." lucas says shaking his head.

"but i don't like orange juice. i like apple." she says whining like a baby.

"drink it." he says.

"no." she says.

"penelope."

"huckleberry."

"drink the damn juice." he says in a serious tone.

"nope. i'm not doing it." she says in the same tone. lucas rolls his eyes and gives up.

after a little bit maya's ready to leave.

"alright let's go see deadpool!" maya says clapping her hands.

"the nurse hasn't said you can leave yet." lucas says.

"since when do i listen to anyone else besides myself? either way i feel fine and i'm ready to go so can we please go?" she asks and lucas sighs. he gets up and reaches his hand out to her. she takes it and as soon as her feet hit the ground she gets dizzy.

"maya? are you okay?" he asks.

"i'm good. i'm fine." she lies.

"you sure?" he asks and she shakes her head before collapsing into his arms.

"maya!" lucas says holding her in his arms. the nurse runs over to him and asks him what happened. "she got up and fainted. is she okay?" he asks.

"yeah, she probably just has a low blood sugar. she should wake up in a little bit. i would probably get her some food once she wakes up." she says before walking away. lucas lifts maya up and carries her to his car. he puts her down in the seat and she starts to stir awake. he goes to the driver side and she opens her bright blue eyes.

"what happened ranger rick?" she asks.

"you fainted because you have a low blood sugar. i wonder why. it's almost like i told you to drink the fucking juice!" he says gripping the steering wheel.

"no yelling. my head hurts." she whines.

"i'm sorry. i just worry about you." he says calling down.

"well i thank you for that but i'm fine. at least i think i'm fine." she says laying her head against the window.

"what do you want to eat?" he asks quickly glancing at her.

"tacos!" she says instantly perking up.

"okay." he says laughing. he drives them both to maya's favorite taco shop and the smile she has on her face is ridiculous. they walk in and order before lucas pays for both of them.

"i can get it hucks." she says.

"i got it. i mean i'm the one that convinced you to donate blood." he says.

"well i'm not about to pass on free food. and it looks like your moral compass ways are rubbing off on me." she says giggling. they get their tacos and then go sit down. maya starts to dig into them and lucas watches her in awe.

"damn girl you can eat." he says chuckling.

"you should already know that by now. tacos are my favorite thing." she says laughing. they both continue to laugh and eat before they're ready for the movies.

"are you up for the movie? you look a little tired penelope." lucas says as they walk towards his truck.

"i am tired." she says. "i mean i did lose a good amount of blood today." she laughs.

"let's get you home shortstack." he says wrapping his arm around her. she leans her head onto his shoulder and closes her eyes.

"cowboy i'm tired." she whines.

"come on. i'll carry you." he says lifting her up bridal style and carrying her to the car while she puts her head on his shoulder and closes her eyes again. he puts her on the seat and then drives her home. he carries her back into her house and places her on her bed. she keeps her arms locked around his neck as he tries to take them off.

"i want cuddles." she says pulling him down into the bed with her.

"maya, you need to sleep." he says.

"and i will. i just want you to cuddle me until i fall asleep." she says. lucas sighs and gives in to her before laying down next to her.

"go to sleep pancakes." he says wrapping his arm around her.

"thank you for the tacos huckleberry." she says kissing him on the cheek.

"no problem." he says smiling before kissing her forehead softly as she falls asleep cuddled up into his chest.
