Zoe's POV

"I don't want to get my hopes up Lexi." I said concerned.

"You're right." she said calmly. "You should find out his intentions first. I just don't want you to get hurt again Zo." said Lexi while she hugged me. "I know Blake hurt you really bad. That'll take time, for you to forget. For you to heal."

We were interrupted by the sound of the door opening, while two girls came in.

"Oh, hey." we said awkwardly.

"Hey. I'm Maya Parker." said a dark blue haired girl. She seemed nice but kind of dark.

"I'm Aileen." said the other girl. She had green eyes and long, dark brown hair.

"Are you guys going to the Welcome Bonfire?" asked Aileen.

"Yeah, we plan to." Lexi and I answered at the same time.

"I bet Shawn will be there." said Aileen teasingly.

"Who's Shawn?" I asked a bit lost.

"Shawn Ortega. She hasn't stopped talking about him since she saw him." said Aileen.

"He's really cute." said Maya trying to maintain her composure. "He's just... Wow." she said giving up. "Wait.. Do I like a boy?... Well that's a new one." Maya said to herself.

"We should get ready for the Welcome Bonfire. We have an hour and a half." said Lexi.

An hour later, after we finished getting ready, we heard a knock on the door. Lexi opened the door while I checked myself on the mirror one last time.

"It's for you!" Lexi said to me while turning around and wiggling her eyebrows up and down and mouthing 'go get him!'. I laughed and walked to the door. There stood Zack. Wearing a baby blue shirt, not buttoned up completely, revealing just a small part of his chest. He wore a pair of joggers. The type that seems tight. His dirt blonde hair styled perfectly, making his hazel eyes stand out.

"Weren't you supposed to..." I started, "Look for me when you got there?" I whispered, mocking him.

"I guess I couldn't wait." he said laughing a bit at my recent comment.

I was wearing a black, short dress that ended right above my knees. I wore my black vans, let my dirt blonde curls loose and put on a little mascara, filled in my eyebrows, and put on some matte lipstick in a nude shade.

"Shall we go?" he asked anxiously. I could tell he was a bit nervous.

I looked at the girls and they nodded in approval, so we left. There was a few seconds of awkward silence that felt like ages.

"My mom left when I was seven." he mumbled suddenly.

"Excuse me?" I said, since I didn't understand him.

"You wanted to get to know me. My mom left when I was seven." he said coldly and mad.

"Hey, look at me." I said as I lifted his chin up. "Your parents don't define you." I reminded him of what he had said to me earlier that day.

"You're really something Zoe Gonzalez." he said smiling softly. "You know, sometimes I think we've been okay without her. We have never needed her. Not even for a second." he clenched his jaw.

"Who's we?" I asked, then realized it's none of my business. "It's none of my business, forget I even -- " he cuts me off by saying "my brother and I."

"I didn't imagine you had a brother."

"Yeah, twin brother, in fact. We don't look very alike though. His name's Noah." he answered. "He came to camp too." he added excitedly. Then I remembered Lexi telling me about a boy named Noah. She met him by the lake, while she admired it.
