C06: Adaptation

ZOE'S POV

I woke up to the sound of birds chirping. I open my eyes and close them quickly when the sun hits my eyes. I sit up in my bed for a few minutes while I started to wake up. I heard keys jiggling and the door open revealing Maya and Alexa sneaking quietly into the cabin holding plates.

"You're up early." I said with a sleepy voice.

"Early? Have you seen the clock? It's 11:39 am." said Maya laughing. "We brought pancakes with nutella and strawberries." she said again.

"Thank god. I'm starving!" said Aileen, coming out of the bathroom.

"Zack was asking for you back at the cafeteria." Lexi said while moving her eyebrows like she usually does.

"He did?" I asked as I washed my teeth in the bathroom.

"He did." said Maya.

"What're today's activities?" asked Aileen whike she got dressed.

"We have canoeing at 1 pm, rappeling at 3 pm, and dinner is at 6 pm. After that, we're free." I said, reading the schedule.

Aileen and I finished getting ready. I wore shorts, a white tank top. Of course, I didn't forget my vans and my bandana. I put my hair up on a messy bun. We left the cabin and headed to the cafeteria.

"I barely saw you last night, Zoe. Where were you?" asked Aileen curiously.

"Yeah So, where were you?" asked Lexi teasing me.

"Where was I? Where were you guys?! We just saw you when you got there." I said laughing.

"Who's we?" asked Maya.

"Zack and I." I said shyly.

"Oh so you were with Zack last night." they all said at the same time.

"Yeah." I giggled. "We talked a lot. I got to know him better. He's nice. Has a good heart." I said as I went through some of last night's memories. "Although I don't plan on having a relationship just yet. I mean, we just met. I know some things about him, but that's not enough." I added.

The girls smiled, then nodded.

As soon as we got to the cafeteria, we saw the boys in one of the tables. When we got there, Isaac and Marcus seemed to be arguing while Zack, Noah and Shawn just laughed. Maya leaned down and kissed Shawn on the cheek while Noah and Lexi smiled at each other like idiots. Honestly, they all looked so pathetic! Believing in love and feeling butterflies. Nonsense. It's all just nonsense.

" I bet it's because of your ads." Isaac said to Marcus, teasing him. I sat next to Zack.

"Good morning Sleeping Beauty." he whispered just for me to hear.

"Morning." I said kind of cold.

I realized after last night, I was going to end up falling for Zack eventually. I can't end up falling for him. I'll end up hurt all over again. It's all too much, I know I won't be able to handle that, not again. I think it's best if we keep our distance. Just be friends and just lock those feelings away.

"Are you ok Zo?" he whispered again.

"I'm just thinking." I said. "Oh" he said. "What are they arguing about?" I asked trying to change the subject.

"Zoe, I know something's wrong." he paused, as if he was waiting for me to tell him. "We're not done talking." he said concerned. I looked away and ignored him.

"What are they arguing about?" I asked Noah, since Zack just stared at me, worried.

"Stephanie has been ignoring Marcus all morning and now she's talking with Jackson non-stop. It's like they're glued to each other. They haven't stop talking and laughing." answered Noah.
