"You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it."

The planning began immediately after Negan and the saviours had left Alexandria. Our larger group was split up into much smaller ones to make sure everything went smoothly. A different coloured armband represents each community. Hilltop is green, The Kingdom is orange, and Alexandria is white.

After a long day of preparations, night fell, and I took a quick shower. Stepping out, I wrapped myself in a towel and left the bathroom.

"Hey, Sky," Carl muttered, not looking up from his comic. He was staring at it, his eye moving across the page as each sentence passed.

"Hey," I replied, picking pyjamas from the top drawer of our shared dresser.

"What do you think about this whole plan? I mean, Tara and Carol going off alone, just you and Michonne here, the rest of us are out fighting. What if something happens here?" I ramble while getting changed.

"Think about what you just said. Tara and Carol alone? Michonne here? The rest of you out there? You girls are the most badass people I know. Maggie and my dad are leading you! You're going to be fine. We'll all be fine," he stood up and put both of his hands on my shoulders.

Thinking about what he had said, I laughed out loud.

"I must be exhausted, then. I wasn't thinking," we both laughed, and I climbed into bed next to him.

"G'night sleepyhead," he mumbled to me as I cuddled into his chest.

"Carl, Sky, I need you to get up. It's a long day ahead," Rick called up the stairs.

I sat up and rubbed my eyes. Stretching, I crawled out of bed and made my way to the bathroom.

"Morning, sunshine," Carl smirked. He was using the toilet and hadn't bothered to close the door.

"Jesus, Carl. Warn me next time," I said, trying not to laugh.

"It's nothing new," he laughed while zipping his pants and washing his hands.

I just shook my head and got ready. After throwing on jeans, a t-shirt, and my worn-out converse, I made my way downstairs to pick up my usual weapons.

"You ready for today?" Michonne asked with a soft smile.

"Of course, I am."

After Carl parked the car, I opened the rusty door and made my way to the trunk to pick up a gas can.

We were all supposed to meet at the intersection, but finding supplies is something we just couldn't pass up.

Carl handed a can to me, and we made our way down to the pumps in silence.

As we did, my eyes wandered around from rusted cars to children's toys to rotting corpses.
