"Pain changes people; it makes them trust less, overthink more, and shut people out."

Six Years Ago
For days leading into weeks after Rick's death, Michonne, Daryl and I looked for his body. I wasn't very keen on it—in other words, I was afraid to face the truth—but I knew I had to help Michonne and Daryl find closure.
The surroundings of the remaining bits of the bridge were muddy and walker strewn. Many of the walkers were still moving, but not very far because of their missing limbs. I followed slowly behind Michonne while killing the stragglers left onshore, but not before checking for the familiar face of Rick. Still nothing.
We both spotted something glimmering in the wet mud, and Michonne knelt to dig it up. I couldn't help but let out a shaky breath when the sunlight hit my eyes, reflecting off of Rick's silver Colt Python.

After being on the run and sleeping with one eye open for so long, being a light sleeper was something I had developed. It was a primal instinct that had become regular for me. Now living in Alexandria, it wasn't that great, especially when Michonne was up early every morning throwing up.
Of course, I was suspicious, but I couldn't let myself believe it. There was no hiding it anymore when I found a discarded pregnancy test in the bathroom, and Michonne pulled me to her room and sat me down.
"I know. I saw," I said, and she grabbed my cold hand. I was excited about new beginnings, but it was bittersweet.
"Are you okay?" She asked me cautiously, and I just nodded, warm tears running down my cheeks as we pulled each other into a tight hug.
"I'll be with you every step of the way," I smiled through the tears and couldn't help but feel a little excited.
6 Months Later
Michonne's baby bump was very visible now, and I was sure within the next few weeks to a month, the baby would be born. She was, of course, nervous, but we had an excellent doctor to guide her along the way.
I kept my promise by being with her every step of the way; especially now she was so close to giving birth. She never gave up looking for Rick, so I never left her side. Daryl wasn't around much anymore, only seeing him at the odd time.
"He ain't out here. I followed this to the ocean and back.
Nothing out there, either," Daryl's familiar gruff voice was coming from behind us, so I turned around to see him. I knew he wouldn't stop looking for Rick either."You good?" Daryl queried, and we nodded.
"I am. Gotta keep an eye out for Michonne," I said and looked at him.
