"Falling in love. And say, it's crazy. Falling. You see? We don't say 'rising into love.' There is in it the idea of the fall." - Alan Watts
This isn't your typical love story.
It's not about a boy and a girl falling for each other and everything ma...
"I can't tell you exactly how it will end. But I can say this: when it begins, it will feel like rain, and when it ends, it will feel like fire. And the truth is, we're all beautifully mad enough to believe that maybe love was meant to save us from ourselves."

✦ PROLOGUE ✦
PRE-APOCALYPSE SUMMARY
Skylar Dixon lived with her mother and father.
The picture-perfect family.
But what no one realized is that even the prettiest pictures can fall— Shattered. Burned. Forgotten.
Her father became an alcoholic. And then... a monster. He beat his only child.
Alone. Neglected. Broken.
Was that who she was now? She didn't want to be here anymore. She didn't want to feel that pain again.
All she wanted was to disappear. To give up.
Until she met someone. A friend.
Carl Grimes.
She had him. She had his family. For the first time, she was someone who could be loved. Who could be safe.
Until— the Catastrophe.
How long does it take for someone to truly learn the difference between:
Surviving... and Living?
POST-APOCALYPSE SUMMARY
Skylar Dixon has lost everyone. Alone—again. Completely and utterly.
Hope feels like a ghost. And now, she can't even tell the difference between being alive and just surviving.
That is, until she reunites with old loved ones... And meets new ones.
The day he finds her in that cabin— That's the day everything changes.
What follows is a whirlwind of grief, love, pain, fear... and friendship.
Looking back now, she can't help but wonder: Should she have stayed in the cabin? Would it have been easier to stay hidden?
Or was all of this chaos... worth it?

A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR
Hey y'all—this is me now (October 2018). I started writing this fanfic when I was 14, and I'm 17 now, so please bear with me! I've edited and improved it as much as I could, and I'm honestly really proud of this book. (My writing has gotten better—I promise.)
P.S. Carl and Skylar are 12 years old when this story begins!
