"We build too many walls and not enough bridges."

The plan was set in stone, and I was confident with our little group. Our main priority was Henry, but I hoped to get Lydia and Ben out of there alive. The siblings had been through so much, and it was so hard to send them back to Alpha, especially after hearing about how they treated a baby.
Most of our day was silent, the only words coming from Daryl and I. Personally, I didn't want to speak much with Connie around. I felt terrible and wasn't quite sure what she could understand. This didn't mean I underestimated her, though. She was tough as nails and was a skilled fighter.
We had been tracking the group of humans dressed as walkers for some time now—and by we, I mean Daryl and his clever dog archer—and night had fallen now. There was one thing that we had on our side, and that was the actual walkers.
With all three of us putting our heads together, we found the camp and kept a safe distance from it. I could see well enough to find Henry and Lydia, Ben was standing off to the side, and a very tall man was with them as well.
"We need a distraction," I said to Daryl and Connie, who both nodded, and she pointed to the walkers.
"Good. And we need to get in there somehow," Daryl said, and I could see a hint of an idea on his face, which slightly worried me. Connie seemed to piece together and join in on his idea, and I was still clueless.
Connie made a motion that looked like putting on a mask, and my eyes widened. Wearing guts was hard enough for me, but this was over the top. I bit my lip and sighed. It was the only way.
After some gagging and making disgusted faces, we ended up with three walkers' skins to wear as masks.
"We'll lead the walkers right to em'," Daryl instructed, and Connie nodded, tucking her pen and paper away. She sent me a sad smile, and I gave them one final look before closing my eyes tightly and placing the mask on my face, them following suit.
We blended in with no problem, and screams began to erupt from Alpha's group, who hadn't acted fast enough to put their mask on.
My eyes lit up as I saw a clearing up ahead with Ben, Lydia and Henry in the middle. Daryl grabbed Henry's arm, and I pulled on Ben's sleeve. He turned around quickly, ready to attack, but Daryl spoke up.
"Keep your head down. We're leaving," Daryl instructed, and Ben had a slight smile on his face. I was happy to see the three of them again.
"Not without Lydia," Henry immediately said, and I knew Daryl would put up a fight.
"No, the girl stays," Daryl whispered, and I gave him a look. I knew it was dangerous to bring her, but Daryl, of all people, should understand.
"Then so do I," Henry said, and Ben looked at me. I shook my head.
