(January 1940)

I walked the four miles to the river and back to get water, just to not let my anger out on the guys and Bernadette. How could so many of them think that it was okay to do what they were doing? Killing children and women just because they were Jewish was something that left me confounded. It was pretty intrepid that somebody would order the death of so many people when someone might miss them. I was certain that Hitler was reprehensible for that.

"Hey Tiny. Can you get me some bullets?" Butch asked as I put the water down. I picked up a box of bullets and handed the bullets to him. I started walking away but Booya whistled.

"Come sit with us, Tiny," Booya said and I glanced at him. I sat next to him and sighed. I watched the small fire that we had and put my chin on my hand.

"What are you thinking about?" Gen asked. I glared at him. "Did some dead bodies make you submit to reticence?" I looked at the fire before standing up. I walked to the trees and eventually sat down behind one.

"You always had a thing for sitting behind trees," Bernadette's voice said. I looked over and she was standing next to me.

"I'm surprised how you know that considering you seemed to pay more attention to Gen than anyone else," I said and she sighed.

"You know that isn't true," she said and I glared at her. She had this look like the world was slowly breaking her.

"How would I? My best friend found you in bed with Gen. How long had that been a thing?" I asked and she looked at the ground.

"I'm sorry," she whispered. I stood up and shook my head.

"I'm sure you are," I said as I walked away.

Alia Ziegler

(November 1940)

I crept into the apartment, trying to avoid everyone because I knew I was late, after I gave Alaric one last kiss. The lights flicked on and Wolf was standing there. He looked so hurt and I held on to my purse.

"How long have you been seeing him?" Wolf asked.

"Today was my first time seeing him. We have been writing letters to each other," I said and he gave me a look.

"You just admitted it," he said.

"There is no point in hiding facts, Wolf," I said. Or denying my heart.

"We are suppose to get married in six months," he said, softly as he looked around his apartment.

"Were," I stated. He looked at me and I walked over to my bag of clothes that weren't even unpacked yet. He grabbed my arm and threw me to the ground. I screamed so loudly that I was certain Wolf wanted to tear his ears off but instead he leaned down and held my face.

"Like hell we aren't! You are my fiancée and you will marry me," he said.

"Let go of me!" I yelled and he slapped me. I cried out and I heard the door open. We looked over and Alaric was standing there.

"Get out of here. No one needs someone that steals another man's fiancée," Wolf said. Alaric put his hands on his waist.

"A man doesn't beat a woman," Alaric said and Wolf launched at him. Alaric stepped aside and pinned Wolf against a wall. "Alia, grab your bag. We'll get everything else later," Alaric told me kindly. I grabbed my clothes and Alaric walked to me as I went the door.

"Just remember she loved me first," Wolf said and Alaric looked at him as he put his hand on my lower back.

"At least she is leaving with me," Alaric said and led me out of the apartment. We were silent until we got to the street and he took my bag. "Do you have a place to stay?" he asked.

"My family would already be asleep and I don't want to wake them up right now," I said as tears escaped my eyes. He hugged me as I started crying.

Alaric Zimmerman

(November 1940)

I opened the door to the apartment and Alia was silently following me. My parents were cleaning up the kitchen table and Adeline was reading on the couch.

"Alaric, who is this?" Mother asked as I put Alia's bag down.

"My uh.... girlfriend," I said as I looked at Alia. Alia smiled at me and Father nodded. "She needs a place to stay for the night," I said.

"Same rules as always," Mother said and I nodded as they headed to their room and I ruffled Adeline's hair as she followed.

"Night Ad," I said.

"Night Al," Adeline said and closed the bedroom door. I looked at Alia.

"You can have the couch," I said as I pulled out Adalwolf's and my old stash of pillows and blankets.

"Thank you, Alaric," she said as I laid out the pillows and blankets. I shrugged.

"It's nothing," I said and she grabbed my arm lightly.

"Kiss me," she whispered as she put her arms around my neck. I held her waist and leaned down to kiss her.

(December 1944)

I kissed Alia in front of the priest and our families. Some of the guys I was serving with were there as well. Alia planned the whole thing after we decided to get married. I couldn't stop smiling as she held on to me.

"You are lucky we got this time off," Booya shouted as he threw some flowers at me. I touched Alia's face and she smiled at I moved her hair.

"You are lucky you were invited by a persistent little lady," I told him and he shook my hand.

"Congratulations," he said and nodded to Alia. Alia held my arm and I kissed her forehead.

"Kiss me," she whispered as she put her arms around my neck. I held her waist and leaned down to kiss her.
