Adalwolf Zimmerman

(December 1939)

I felt Alaric move the blanket that was around me. I felt like shit and I knew that I kept going in and out. Alaric and Jack were tense around each other but I couldn't create any thought that made sense.

"Alaric, I miss Adeline," I whined as Alaric fed me some tomato soup. He sighed.

"She told me that she misses you, Adalwolf. She told me Father is still looking for you," he told me as he checked my temperature before giving me more soup.

"Screw Father. He deserves to die. He will kill me the second he found out that I am gay," I said. Alaric stopped for a second before shaking his head and giving me more soup.

"I thought you got to America until Heiko's sister wrote me," he told me. I looked away and realised that he was disappointed. "What happened?" I asked.

"Heiko couldn't leave his sisters," I stated. Heiko and I had a fight about that. I didn't want to leave my siblings either but I knew we had to leave Germany. Heiko overpowered me and slapped me and we stayed.

"I should have made sure that you made it on that plane," he stated and I looked at him. He was looking at the ground and I weakly touched him.

"Don't worry about it. I'll be find here. I think I like Jack a lot and he has been making sure that I am okay," I told him and Alaric nodded.

"You better survive, otherwise I might have to kill myself," he said and I laughed a little.

Alia Ziegler

(May 1940)

"Dearest, Alia,"

I stared at that statement and read it again.

"Dearest, Alia,"

Alaric had written it to a letter to me and that's how it started. I thought that he was being funny but the rest of the letter was a tad flirty as well.

"You have kept me alive for a bit longer."

"Once I return to Berlin, I would like to see your beauty."

The problem wasn't that he was flirting but rather the fact that I was feeling warm from the fact that e was flirting. I looked over to Wolf and lost my smile. Alaric flirted more in one letter with me than Wolf had in our whole relationship.

"Who wrote you?" Wolf asked as I looked back to the letter.

"Alaric. We are discussing the war zone," I said and he made a sound. I grabbed some paper and began to write.

My dearest, Alaric,

I am glad that I was able to keep alive with my letters and I most certainly would like to meet you when you return to Berlin. I am certain that you look dashing in your uniform and I would greatly enjoy going around town with you.

I most certainly enjoy getting letters from you and I must say that your penmanship is very neat. I hope to see more in the future.

Regards,

Alia Ziegler

(November 1940)

I stood in the cold in front of the winter fair that was in town. I was waiting for Alaric in my best dress and coat. I looked at the ground. We had been flirting for months and he seemed to really care about what I thought. I fell in love with him through his letters and he even sighed one letter with much love. I even admitted that I was engaged but that didn't stop him. And he admitted that there was a girl he was dating but that didn't stop me.

"Alia?" a deep husky voice said, making me look up. I sucked in a breath. The soldier in front of me was full of sharp angles and was purely muscle.

"Alaric?" I whispered and he smiled. He took my hand and kissed the top.

"In uniform, as promised," Alaric said. I smiled as I took his hand.

"Absolutely dashing as I assumed," I told him as we walked in to the fair.

"You are more beautiful that the stars twinkling in the night," he said. I laughed as I held his arm and we walked over to a ride.

*

As the sun set, we got on to the ferris wheel. Alaric put an arm around me and I smiled as I cuddled into his side. We got to the top and the ride stopped.

"Technical difficulties. We will try to fix it as fast as we can," someone yelled up. I looked at Alaric who put an arm around me.

"Well, now we get some alone time," he said.

"Why did you not back off when I told you that I had a fiancé?" I asked, softly as I looked up at him. He moved a piece of my hair and I smiled.

"The same reason you didn't when I told you there was a girl that I had a romantic interest in," he said and I touched his face.

"You showed me more love than he did in three years," I commented and he leaned down to fit our lips together. I leaned into the kiss and I smiled against his lips. When we pulled apart, the ferris wheel started again and I looked down. I sat up straight a's I saw someone.

"What's wrong?" he asked and I took his hand.

"Two of my students," I said and he let me panic for a second.

"Oh, hello Miss Ziegler," Wilson said as Adeline and him saw me with Alaric. Adeline's eyes went directly to Alaric.

"You said that you weren't coming to the fair," Adeline said. Did I say that?

"No, I didn't. I said that I was going to be going but not with you," Alaric said.

"Which means you can't go," Adeline said and Alaric gave her a look of just being done.

"That's not what that means Addie," Alaric said. I suddenly realised that...

"You two are siblings," I stated. They looked at me.

"I told you about Addie," Alaric said and I nodded.

"I didn't connect two and two together," I told him softly and he shrugged.

"Well, now you are going on rides with us," Adeline said and Alaric suppressed a laugh as she marched off.

"After you," he told me and I couldn't help but to smile.
