I followed Adalwolf to his hiding spot and we crawled in. When we got in, I looked around and just saw bookshelves of books and objects that were suppose to be burned but clearly my brother saved them.

"Adalwolf, why do you have all of this? What if someone catches you?" I asked him and he shrugged.

"I don't understand why we have to burn all these things. They are a truth and we shouldn't hide the truth," he told me, "and clearly you don't understand either."

"No one can place me with him but someone finds this, you will start a witch hunt," I told him. He groaned.

"What if someone goes into the office and sees you?" he asked. I stuck out my bottom lip.

"Other Jews had seen me but never an Aryan. Plus no one will have to worry about that anymore," I told him. He looked at me with a confused look.

"What do you mean?" he asked as I sat on the ground.

"The Gestapo took him. Him and his whole family. I don't know where the Gestapo are taking them but I know that it's not okay," I said. He sat next to me and I watched as he bit his lip.

"If you tell Father any of this, I'm dead," he said. Adalwolf was sixteen but Adeline was a miracle and was only seven. I guess people could say that Adalwolf and I were close and we did a lot together but that included hiding things from our father that we knew would make him see us as less than men.

"Did I ever tell him that you were homosexual?" I asked. He sighed. He told me six months before that he was homosexual and in the day and age my brother would be attacked for his sexuality, maybe even killed.

"No," he said. I nodded and he sighed as he hung his head. He was ashamed of his sexuality and he knew the consequences if anyone found out.

"So why would I tell him about your hiding spot and the books?" I asked. He shrugged and I touched his shoulder.

"I think I know where all the Jewish people and Hitler's undesirables are going," he said. I swallowed.

"This is where I'm drawing the line," I said, "Nothing is going to happen to you." He hugged me as I heard a rustle behind us.

"Heiko! This is my brother. Don't worry. He knows about my sexuality," Adalwolf said. I looked at the boy that Adalwolf referred to.

"Hello," Heiko stated as he sat next to my brother. He seemed awkward and then I noticed that he took my brother's hand.

"How long have you two been together? And where did you meet?" I asked. They both pulled their hands back and into their laps.

"A little over a year," Adalwolf said.

"And we can't tell you because it will risk hundreds of others," Heiko said. I nodded and they looked at each other.

"Alaric, maybe you can help us," Adalwolf said. I cocked my head at them.

"With what?" I asked, "I'm not going to tell anyone about your relationship."

"Not that. We have homosexual friends that have been missing. Adalwolf has been investigating but I don't think that he is right," Heiko said.

"What do you think it is happening?" I asked, looking at my brother. He took a deep breath.

"I think that the government is getting rid of everyone that they deem a threat to natural order," Adalwolf told me and I looked at Heiko.

"How would they be getting rid of them without everyone knowing where they are?" I asked. Heiko looked at Adalwolf and Adalwolf sighed.

"I think that they are killing them. It's the only thing that makes sense," Adalwolf said. I exchanged a look with Heiko and he shrugged. I grabbed my brother's hand and shook my head.

"Nothing is going to happen to anyone. People aren't that heartless as to kill innocent people," I said.

"Plus, all our friends are secretive about their sexuality so they might just be spending sometime with their significant others," Heiko said. Adalwolf nodded.

"I'm probably just stressing out about nothing," Adalwolf said, trying to sound positive.

"Of course," I said. He nodded and closed his eyes. Heiko put an arm around him and kissed his temple.

"Adalwolf, you need to remember that fear won't help us hide. You have to stay strong," Heiko told him softly and Adalwolf nodded.

"I know that. I just don't know how much longer you and I can stay in Germany," Adalwolf said.

"You want to leave Germany?" I asked. They looked at me.

"We've been learning English so we can move to a gay community in America," Heiko told me, "And papers." I looked at my lap and suddenly realised that I could get them to America with American papers.

"Come with me," I said as I started to head out of the hiding spot.

Heiko and Adalwolf followed me and I opened the door to Mr Kornfeld's office. They exchanged a look as I opened the door and walked to the safe.

"What is this place?" Adalwolf asked. I pulled out the immigration papers and two of the tickets.

"Your way out," I said, checking the tickets. They were for that night and I knew that if they didn't get out that just the community would kill them, if not my father would.

"These are immigration papers and tickets to New York," Heiko said as I found a pen to write their names on the immigration papers.

"Don't ask questions. Both of you are Aryan and no one will question you two getting on the plane," I said as I filled in Adalwolf's papers.

"Maybe you should come with us," Adalwolf said. I looked at him as Heiko wrote his name on the paper.

"I can't run away from the army. Just let me serve then I will join you guys there," I said and he hugged me.

"Thank you," he said and I smiled at him Heiko who nodded his thanks.

"Adalwolf, we have to go. We can't miss the flight," Heiko said. I smiled at Adalwolf nodded. Then like birds in the winter, they were gone. And that was probably for the best.
