I woke to the sound of a phone ringing. "Hello?" I asked not looking at the caller ID.
"Why haven't you been answering your damn phone!!!!??? I thought he had killed you!!!" Bella screamed into my ear.
"What do you mean? Who did you think killed me." I ask very confused.
"I've been able trying to call you since yesterday! Around lunch time." Bella said.
"Don't worry. I'm fine. I just had a problem. So how low is the battery now?" I ask.
"Its at sixty percent. I'll call you back soon. I've got to go." Bella said.
"I'll find you. I swear Bella." I said right before she hung up. I placed the phone back on the table and started to stand up.
"Hey. You need to lie back down." The tall blonde nurse said gently pushing me back down on the hospital bed. "I'm going to get your doctor. Stay down." She said sternly.
"But there is nothing wrong with me." I said ignoring the pain in my ribcage.
"You have four broken ribs and you are covered in bruises. You have brain damage. So no you are not fine." The nurse said leaving only to return a minute later accompanied by a doctor.
"Okay. Miss Sinclair. I need you to start talking but to the FBI agent that has been waiting here for you to wake up since yesterday. I just treat your wounds. Now you are going to have to take it easier. Here's the agent now." The doctor said and left the room pulling the nurse with him.
"I'm Detective Smith from the FBI. I'm going to ask you a few questions." He said glancing at my phone as it lit up. I didn't recognize the number.
"Hello?" I ask while I received a death glare from Smith.
"Alissa! Why haven't you been answering your phone? I've called it at least twenty times. When you didn't answer I decided to try this one." Adam said.
"Adam! I forgot to tell you that I lost my phone so now I'm using dad's. So how are you?" I ask.
"I'm okay. I got lucky. I was shot. But it was just a crease across my ribcage." Adam was saying when Smith plucked the phone from my hand.
"I'm sorry, Adam, I assume. But Alissa can't talk right now. I'm asking her some very important questions about the-" Smith said before I grabbed the phone out of his hand.
"It's me. So the bullet wound was just a crease. That's good. By the way Bella was kidnapped. Dad is improving and if you are going to call me call this phone. Love you. I've got to go." I said hanging up on my brother that I barely hear from. "You had no right to take my phone!!" I screamed at him.
"Who's Adam?" He asked ignoring my outburst.
"Adam's my brother. He was drafted. This was his first mission. He honestly believed that he was going to die. He was shot but it was only a crease. Now I am going to go see my father. And you can't come with me." I said grabbing my phone- well dad's phone. And then left the room. By the time I reached dad's room I felt like I was going to pass out.
I sank into a chair next to him. "Alissa. You are not allowed to walk out of a questioning." Smith said from the doorway. I turned to look at him.
"What do you want to know?" I asked sighing in defeat.
"Did you see your attacker? We believe that this might have been connected to your friends kidnapping." Smith said.
"No. It's not connected to Bella's kidnapping. But I also didn't see the man who did this." I said.
"How do you know that it is not connected to the kidnapping of Bella Rafael?" Smith asked.
"I just have a feeling." I answered as my phone rang again. "Hello?" I said fed up with the phone calls.
"Alissa. You've been a bad girl. You will be next." The man said causing a chill to run up my spine.
"How did you get this number?" I asked.
"You really have to ask? Just look at the caller ID." He said as I glanced at the name- my name- flashing on the screen.
"Prove that she is still alive." I demanded placing the phone on speaker.
"She's alive. But not for long because of you." He said.
"Prove it. Prove to me that Bella is still alive." I begged.
"Fine." The man grumbled and then there was a slight pause.
"Ali. He found the phone. He caught me talking took you. I'm sorry." Bella said obviously crying.
"Bella it's not your fault." I said as the phone hung up. "Smith let's continue this tomorrow. I'm drained. I'll talk tomorrow." I said and he nodded, gathered his stuff, and left.
