I woke up to the sound of a phone ringing, and my arm naturally began rummaging around the bed to find it. However, I did not find the phone. Instead, I found Lucas.

I realised that we must have fallen asleep whilst waiting for our face masks to dry, and I couldn't help but smile at the view of his beautiful resting face. Who knew that this would happen? To me, especially?

"Hello?" I whispered into the phone, wincing at the loud yell of a woman on the other end. "Mum, you don't need to shout. I can hear you perfectly fine."

"Oh," She mumbled in response, sounding a little fed up. "Well, I just called to tell you that we probably won't be returning until tomorrow morning since the weather has made it impossible to get back... How has everything been? Are you safe?"

"Yes, mum. I'm safe." I rolled my eyes, yet put on a fake voice to disguise it. "I was asleep, actually."

"Ah, I'm sorry... I should've guessed since it's almost midnight. I won't keep you on the line for long." She apologised whilst yawning in between sentences. "I'll see you in the morning."

"Yeah, see you. Goodnight." I stated simplistically before hanging up and throwing the phone onto a nearby armchair.

Lucky for me, Lucas was still asleep - but not for long.

Gently peeling away one corner of the dried face mask, I slowly began to drag it away from his skin, cautious not to wake him yet. However, when I had enough to hold onto and was physically prepared to run if necessary, I yanked the face mask hard enough to make the boy wince and roll over onto his side, a hand cupping his cheek.

"Why would you do that?" He groaned in pain, his 'morning-voice' unexpectedly making my heart skip a beat. "You're a monster."

"Rise and shine, baby boy."

"What... What time is it?" He continued to groan, but decided to roll back over so that he was now facing me.

"Almost midnight - we were asleep for six hours, and your parents probably think you're dead." I stated casually before throwing the used face mask into a nearby bin.

"I probably will be soon if I stay with you and your abusive ways." Lucas commented before sitting up and running his fingers through his hair. "I should probably get going."

"Wait, it's dark... And cold... And there could be lions, and tigers and bears..."

"Oh my." He gasped, lazily glancing over at me. "Alright then, you've convinced me to stay the night."

"Really?" I quizzed as I tried my best to hide my excitement.

"Only because I'm too tired to go anywhere." He mumbled, sounding as if he was already beginning to drift back to sleep.
