"If I go to bed right now, I'll have exactly four hours and thirty-six minutes of sleep." I quietly told myself as I locked my phone once again. I had been awake for 3 hours, and it was safe to assume that I wasn't going to fall asleep anytime soon - not with everything that was running through my mind.
My mum then appeared in my bedroom doorway a few moments later, holding what I thought to be a cup of something.
"I saw that your light was on so I knew you were still awake." She said in an almost apologetic tone. "But I've brought you a cup of hot chocolate - I know it helps you sleep."
"Thanks mum." I smiled gratefully before sitting up and taking the mug from her grasp. "You even made marshmallows?"
"It's a special occasion." She shrugged, taking a seat beside me. "Look, I'm sorry for not wanting you to leave for Canada. It's just that you're my baby girl and this is such a huge opportunity."
"I know."
We both sat in a comfortable silence, the only light source being my bedside lamp. The familiar candle-like glow calmed me significantly, allowing me to enjoy the hot chocolate with a clear state of mind.
"I haven't even told you the story behind it all, have I?" I sighed as Lucas suddenly occupied my thoughts. Mum's expression immediately lit up at my words.
"I thought you'd never bring it up." She smiled. I hesitated to reply, but decided it was for the best if I was honest.
"Well, it all started with Instagram."
"Instagram... That's the app where you can share photos with your friends, right?" Mum quizzed, knotting her eyebrows together. I nodded in response.
"Yes. Anyway, there's a boy-"
"A boy?"
"Lucas Zumann, to be exact. He's one of the actors that participate in the show... I sent him a video of myself pretending to be auditioning, and he believed that I had a genuine talent so he sent the video to his producers." I blurted out, only catching my tongue once it was all too late.
"I see... And what does this Lucas Zumann look like?" She smirked, and I proudly showed her his Instagram account. "Oh, he's a handsome one."
"I know..."
"How long have you both known each other?"
"A few months, which I guess isn't very long." I shrugged, placing my phone behind me incase I got distracted.
"That doesn't matter." Mum shook her head, watching as I took a few mouthfuls of my comfortably-warm hot chocolate. "Your dad and I had only known each other for a few weeks before I asked him out."
I suddenly choked.
"You asked dad out?" I giggled, and she simply matched my response. "And all this time I was led to believe he was the one to do the asking."
"That's what he wants you to believe." She raised a brow. "Truth being told, your dad was too shy to even think about asking me out."
"Well, Lucas isn't shy whatsoever." I sighed lovingly, and mum's lips curled to reveal a devilish grin.
"I've never seen you like this."
My gaze immediately snapped up to meet her loving eyes.
"Like what?"
"I'm not sure... But, if you ask me, it appears that you have taken a liking to the boy." She teasingly shoved me to the side, making my cheeks flush with a rosy tint.
"Maria said the same thing..."
"Oh," She chuckled. "Well then it must be true."
