The year Amber and I were twelve and in the 7th grade was the year of the slumber parties. We had a TON of them! Every weekend, we'd take turns going over each others house ordering pizza, watching movies, talking about boys and doing basically everything that came to mind.
One particular week, we had a sleep over at my house and we watched Coyote Ugly. After it had went off, we just sat on the floor in the living room talking about boys who we thought were extremely cute. "I think Rob's cute. He's an eighth grader though so he'd probably never like me." Amber was saying. I shook my head. "Wow, he's only like a year older than us Am." I disagree.
"Why do you care? You like Drew anyway don't you?" I blush.
"Amber! Be quiet, he's right upstairs with Joseph!"
"Well sooner or later you're gonna--" Amber said before being cut off by the sound of someone running down the steps. "Ahhhhhhhh!" I heard Joseph and Drew yelling bursting into the living room with two pillows in their hands each. Before Amber or I could react, they were whacking us in the head with pillows laughing like lunatics. I wanted to be mad, but I couldn't. At times like that all you could do was laugh. And that's exactly what I did. This was one of the few time Joseph and I actually got along. I cherished these moments.
I snatched one of the pillows from Joseph and began whacking Drew in his back with it until he fell to the floor. Then I jumped on him and started hitting him in the head. "Jo help!" Drew said between laughs. Jo stopped hitting Amber in the face and yanked me off of Drew. They both jumped me and started hitting me at once. Amber didn't do a thing, she just watched and laughed and I really didn't blame her. Eventually I surrendered and Drew and Joseph stopped.
"That'll teach you to mess with us." Joseph said.
"Shut up loser." I said sticking my tongue out at him.
"Um it seems like you and Amber are the losers. Isn't that right Drew?"
"Yeah man." Drew agreed.
"C'mon let's go call Vanessa and Brandy over. Tell mom and I'll pee on you Sky." Joseph warns. On his way out, he turns around and picks up the big bowl of popcorn Amber and I had and eats a couple. "Yuck! Kettlecorn!" he says in disgust and then he dumps the whole bowl all over me and laughs. Drew looks at me sympathetically, but he doesn't say anything, he just leaves with Joseph.
I was so mad that I actually thought about going upstairs even though it was past midnight and telling mom and dad all about their plans. I look over at Amber who'd been surprisingly quiet. "Thanks for not sticking up for me. It's nice to know you're on Joseph's side." I say.
"It's not that I'm on his side, it's just that he's cute." she replies.
"WHAT?" I say appalled
"I mean I'm not saying that you're not cute its just that I don't go the lesbian way therefore--"
"I'm not talking about that! You think Joseph's cute?!"
"Well...yeah."
"Ew!!"
"Sky, you're just saying that because he's your brother but to me and a lot of other girls he's hot."
"I can't even look at you right now!" I say standing up. All the popcorn that had been on me, fell to the floor and I left the room. I couldn't look at her the same for the rest of the night. My best friend found MY brother attractive even though she saw how mean he always was to me and how much we disliked each other.
Surprisingly she never said anything about him being cute again, maybe it was because she didn't want to upset me again, but I guess her attraction to him never really went away.
