Memory Ten

A couple of weeks after Joseph had thrown the bowl of popcorn on me, him and Drew were still hanging out with Vanessa and Brandy. At first I thought that they were each dating one of them until one night when I was watching the basketball game with my dad and they came into the house. It wasn't the usual laughs that they always came in with but a sort of weird dead silence. "Hey!" I said getting off the couch. My dad was glued to the TV so he didn't notice their weird behavior. "Sky, honey, could you get me a beer out of the fridge." he asked. He only drank beer when football or basketball games were on. I nodded. The guys ignored my greeting.

I went into the kitchen to grab the can of beer and that's when I heard them talking on their way down the hall. "Jo, you know I liked Brandy first, why don't you let me have her and you date Vanessa." Drew was saying.

"No way. Brandy's hot." Joseph replies.

"I actually like her Jo, you only like her body. And Vanessa's just as cute!"

"I never said she wasn't and no, I like Brandy for her and HER body!"

"Jo I'm getting really tired of your sh**! You know what? I think I'm gonna go home." Drew says out of nowhere. I can tell he's mad because he doesn't say bye to my dad on his way out and he always does.

"Sky! Where's my beer? it's taking you forever." my dad calls in from the living room startling me. I take the beer to him and sit back on the couch dazed. Joseph and Drew NEVER got mad at each other.

    The next day, I woke up at around 11am because it was a Saturday. When I got downstairs, I was surprised to see two very pretty girls in our living room. I mean they were so pretty that I immediately felt bad about myself. One, was tall and thin with shiny blond hair and a tan with clear skin. She had on a pair of shorts and sneakers with a Linkin Park band tee. The other girl had caramel skin with long dark brown hair and glossy lips. She was also thin but she had nice curves to go along with it. She was wearing a tank top and a pair of straight legs and flip flops. Both girls were VERY pretty and I mean it! I knew right away that they were Brandy and Vanessa. No wonder the guys had been hanging with them the last few weeks.

"Hi." the one with the blond hair said pulling out her phone. I try to smooth down my bed hair as I say, "Hi." The girl with the dark brown hair smiles and waves at me. "We're waiting for Joseph. We're suppose to be double dating with him and Drew." the dark brown haired girl says.

"Oh. Well he should be down in a sec." As if on cue, Joseph comes trotting down the steps looking good. Even I had to admit it. "Hey Bran," Joseph says putting his arm around the dark haired girl. He smiles a Vanessa. "Hey Vanessa. Don't worry, we're going to Drew's house now so you don't have to feel like a 3rd wheel for long." he laughs and kisses Brandy. I am appalled.

"Hold up, I forgot my wallet."

He goes back up the steps and I follow him all the way to his room. I stand in the doorway. "So Drew decided to date Vanessa instead? I thought he liked Brandy too."

"Nah-- Wait a minute, how do you even know about that? Sky I thought I told you to stop eavesdropping." he says.

"That's not the point Joseph and you know it."

"Okay so maybe he doesn't know that I took Brandy, but Drew's way too nice to say anything in front of them. All he's gonna do is go on the date anyway and be nice to Vanessa."

"Joseph, you're sick."

"And your breath stinks. I guess we've all got problems right?" he says before leaving. And I can't exactly say he's wrong about that.

Four ours later our front door is shoved open by Joseph who looks extremely mad. Drew comes in after him looking even MORE mad! "No Jo, you're not going to run away from this. I'm sick and tired of you taking advantage of me! I've always done all the things that a best friend should do and all you do is stuff like THIS! I'M TIRED OF IT! You knew I like Brandy first!" Drew says angrily. Joseph shakes his head.

"Let's not argue like girls. You got a problem? Then do what guys do." Joseph says. Drew walks up to him. They're so close their almost touching and I know something's about to go down. i think about going to go get my dad but my eyes are glued to them like I'm watching a movie.

"Took too long!" Joseph calls out before punching Drew in the face. Seeing Drew get hit so hard makes my heart hurt and I wanted to pound Joseph myself. Drew recovers from the blow and hits Joseph back right in the jaw. The next thing I know they're on the floor still fighting neither of them willing to give up. Eventually my mom and dad rush into the living room to break it up. "Sky! Why didn't you tell us what was going on?" my mom wanted to know. Truth was I didn't know myself. A broken vase, one swollen eye, and a busted lip later, the fight is over. Joseph and Brandy's relationship lasted maybe two weeks and then Jo ended it with her. That was when I first realized Joseph had a heart. Who knew he'd break up with a girl he liked for Drew's friendship. They've never went after the same girl again and they haven't fought since. Until... Now.
