After listening to Green Day the rest of the ride, we finally pulled into the driveway and Joseph cut the engine.
"I'm gonna take you to your mom's after I check my parents messages." Joseph said getting out of the car.
"They're out of town?" Drew asked. I laughed. "Aren't they always? I'm sure you remember, you practically lived here." I said happy to be talking to him again.
He wasn't very enthusiastic about it, but at least he wasn't ignoring me anymore. We got out of the car following Joseph up the steps and after he unlocked the door we went in."So um about you taking me to my mom's..." Drew said running his hand through his hair. "I don't really think I wanna go stay with her. I was hoping I'd be able to crash here for the rest of the summer. You know cause it's our last summer before college and I really don't wanna see her or my dad. That's why I left him in Arizona."
Joseph and I both wanted to ask what was wrong but we knew it was best not to ask. "Um... I gotta ask mom and dad but I'm sure they'll say it's ok. Hold on lemme go find the number to their hotel." Joseph said.
I could hear the excitement in his voice. To Joseph it was back to the old days when him and Drew lived it up and didn't have a care in the world. To me it'd be very different. Not like the old days when all I wanted to do was hang out with them and secretly be in love with Drew. It'd be awkward for me now and him too since the night he left when I said some things I could never take back.It took me a minute to realize that I was in a room alone with him until I heard him clear his throat. I jumped out of my thoughts and back into reality. Maybe he didn't remember what I'd said to him. He ran his fingers through his hair again and looked at me. Really looked at me for the first time since he'd gotten here. "This is not going to be weird for you or anything? You know me staying here. If it is I'll just go stay in a motel." he said.
"Why would it be weird for her?" Joseph said scaring the crap out of us. I had no idea he'd come back in.
"If anything it'd be weird for you living with an annoying freak like her." he said laughing. I punched him in the arm.
"Well he must like annoying freaks if he hangs out with you." I shot back.
Then I realized I used the word like and blushed. Drew like myself was caught of guard. " Um...I- I," he stuttered. "was just asking because you know she's not a little girl anymore and it might be weird having a boy that's not her brother living with her." Drew covered.
Joseph pretended to barf.
"Ew gross man I don't wanna hear about her becoming a woman!""That's why I asked when I thought you weren't around."
" You know man you've gotten weird since you left. I knew you were a softie but gosh!"
"I was asking for Sky's sake."
"Don't worry about her. She hasn't had many boyfriend's anyway. I don't even think she's kissed a boy yet. She's probably going Taylor Swift style and just now getting hers while she's 15. Heck she might even be a lesbian for all I know. And the thing is I don't wanna know because SHE'S MY SISTER! Now let's drop this."
I wanted to kick Joseph so hard at that point but I didn't. I just stand there speechless from embarrassment. Joseph always had a way of embarrassing me around the boys I liked and that was only like 3 guys including Drew who I'd liked for most of my life. Drew shook his head.
"Man you're the one who's going on and on about it." he said. With that they left me alone in the living room going to do whatever it is that guys do. And that's when I had my epiphany. Drew would be sleeping in the guest room which was across the hall from mine. I sat on the couch lost in my thoughts and that's when I thought about him. Someone I hadn't thought about in a while. My first kiss.
