Alexander smirked as he finished his final nail in the coffin for Thomas Jefferson, putting his hands on his hips as the other representatives began to murmur agreement for his argument against going to France. President Washington was silent for a few moments before agreeing with him and turning away, leaving.
"Did you forget Lafayette?" Thomas asked. Alex hummed to show he was listening and turned to Jefferson, curious, "Do you have an ounce of regret? You accumulate power you accumulate debt but in their hour of need you forget." He crossed his arms.
Alexander huffed, how dare this man try and scold him, "Lafayette's a smart man, he'll be fine and before he was your friend, he was mine. If we try to fight in every revolution in the world, we never stop, where do we draw the line?"
His smirk reappeared as he saw Thomas getting a bit irritated, he didn't know why but he always found pleasure in pissing the taller man off. Thomas tried to sigh and get rid of his anger but it didn't really work, "So quick-witted." He muttered.
Alexander shrugged, "Alas, I admit it." He didn't think being quick-witted was necessarily a terrible quality.
Thomas regarded him slightly and tried to smile to show friendship or forgiveness as he said, "I bet you were quite a lawyer."
Alex smiled as he remembered his days in law, "My defendants got acquitted." He was quite proud of himself for his days as a lawyer and he could brag about it from sun up to sun down.
"Yeah?" Thomas's smile turned into a smirk which made Alex a tad nervous about how he'd respond to the next one-liner, "Well, someone oughta remind you..."
Alexander rolled his eyes, was that it? What a disappointment, "What?" He asked sharply, he had better things to do.
Thomas crossed his arms and laughed lightly, "You're nothing without Washington behind you." He said.
Alex's eyes widened, he didn't know how to reply to that. From down a hall, there was a call, "Hamilton!" He turned to see Washington waiting for him in the golden light of the hallway.
"Daddy's calling," Thomas turned and left as Alex stood there in shock. He didn't know how to reply, how to react, so when Washington called for him again he took off. He didn't know he was to be warned about what was gathering in the skies above, he just ran and ran.
Alexander kept running, just escaping from everything until a light street and loud bang made him stop abruptly. He looked up in fear as he saw a storm forming overhead. He started shaking as flashbacks hit him and hit him hard, slowly he fell to his knees as the rain began to fall.
Thomas yawned as he sat back in his chair, he actually invented these kinds of chairs, swivel chairs! They're just amazing! He spun in a circle before he got up, it was time to get home. He pulled on his coat and barely got out the door before realizing the entire building was in some sort of panic.
He got out and walked around in confusion until he found President Washington, he'd know what was up, "Mr President." He hurried up and sighed, "Thank God I found you. What's going on? Everybody seems to be panicking and hurrying about?"
Washington nodded, "We haven't been able to locate Hamilton." He said and Thomas took a sharp breath, remembering his and Alex's conversation, "I tried to tell him about the storm but he was gone before I could. If he got caught in this...there's a good chance he's trapped in the rain since he's still traumatized by what happened on-where are you going?" Thomas didn't stop though, he ran and turned right which he knew Alex had gone.
He tried to figure which streets Hamilton would have gone down to get home the quickest. Left, right, right, left, what did it matter?! Hamilton was out in this beating weather and it was his fault. No matter how much he pretended he hated Alexander for publicity he did begrudgingly care very deeply for the man and guilt was now eating him away.
Thomas ran down another street without first seeing the lump of green under a tree but when he finally did see it he ran over and almost collapsed next to it, "Hamilton!" He shook him and Alex barely opened his eyes before closing them again, "Shit, man, shit!"
He loaded Alex into his arms and fought the wind to get him to his house. He got him home and put Alexander on a couch, he got towels for him and tried to dry him. He tried to make sure he would be warm but within the night he could tell Alex had gotten a fever and he kept blaming himself.
Thomas stayed by his side and ignored people trying to drag him away to do his work or for his own health. He was upset with himself, he'd let this happen. It wasn't often that Thomas scolded himself, he was a proud man, but he was stuck since there was no way to reverse time and change what he did.
Thomas put his head down, he hadn't slept through the night so he was tired, extremely tired. His eyes hurt so maybe sleeping for a few moments wouldn't hurt. He was almost able to actually fall asleep but movement made him sit up, "Jeffershit?"
Thomas had never liked hearing that name more than he did right in this moment, "Seems you're awake." He put the back of his hand against Alex's forehead despite Alex's fighting him, "Your fever is slowly coming down as well." He whispered.
Alex looked away, "I don't need your help." He told him quietly, "I don't need anybody's help. Not Washington, not you, not Madison, nobody's." He sounded determined yet he couldn't keep the sadness from his tone.
Thomas sighed, "I know." He told him and sat back down, "You've gotten good at climbing the ladder of success all on your own." He said honestly.
"What?" Alex looked at him, "Can you decide which side you're on? Geez, you're such a flip-flop." He looked away from Thomas while ignoring his blush.
"Did you want me to not care?" Thomas asked sarcastically. Soon the two turned into a bickering pair, sort of like an old married couple...
