"Angie, no," Thomas ordered as Angelica helped their daughter, Danelle, with her sign for the rally. She rolled her eyes and ignored her husband as she continued to help Dani, her daughter was only five but she wanted to participate in the March For Our Lives event and that was saying something about adults she thought.
Angie picked Danelle up, sticking her white hat on, it was black with orange lining and it was green under the bill, not to mention it said Rise Up Wise Up Eyes Up scrawled across it in orange. Eliza, her sister and Dani's aunt, had made it, "Why not?" She asked meaningfully and grabbed the sign, "Because you're the president? Maybe that's exactly why we should go." She added and carried their daughter to the foyer to put Danelle's shoes on her.
"Not just because of that!" Thomas said quickly as he followed her, huffing in frustration, "I don't even think it's safe. Protests against the protests are rampant. What if somebody-"
"-What if somebody makes an attempt on mine or Danelle's life?" She asked, "With a gun?" She added and quirked an eyebrow, "Maybe you, the president, should change gun laws and increase the safety of children including your own." She told him and tied her shoes.
"I wanna go, daddy!" Dani yelled defiantly, her personality coming straight from her mother, "Let me go!" She cried and Angelica smiled, she was so motivating.
Thomas crossed his arms and looked at Angelica who got up when she finished with Dani's shoes. She turned to Thomas and they stared at each other for a long time before he sighed, "I don't condone this but...she isn't just my daughter..but you have to have protective detail around you. What if they see getting to you as a way of getting at me?"
"Then maybe you should tell them that you acknowledge that there's a gun danger in this country," Angelica said as sassily as she could, "And refuse to do anything about it. You'll protect me and Danelle but not the children who are murdered when they just want to learn? Think about your morals." She grabbed Danelle and the car keys, leaving before Thomas could continue the argument.
"Mommy?" Danelle asked when Angie pulled out of the driveway, glaring at a window in the White House where Thomas could be seen. She hummed asking for what her daughter wanted and Dani told her, "Why is daddy saying no?" She asked innocently, "He can comes too if he want." She said sweetly.
"That's not why he's upset," Angelica told her softly, rolling her eyes when she noticed the two security cars following her, "He just doesn't want us to go because we'll make his friends angry. We don't care though, we do what we want. We wise up." Dani giggled at her reference to the hat.
"Okay mommy," Dani said happily and looked out the window, "I see people! Can we go join them, mommy? Please? I have my sign!" She grabbed the sign next to her and waved it happily, her little arms almost shaking in glee.
"Of course," Angelica replied and pulled over into a parking spot. She again ignored the black SUVs following her because of Thomas and she climbed out, grabbing Dani and setting her on the ground, "Stay close to mommy though. You promise to stay next to mommy?"
"I p'omise!" Danelle yelled and held her sign, waving it again with a giggle, "I want to walks and stuffs. Come on!" She jumped up and down so Angelica laughed and closed the door, locking it and taking Dani's hand.
"Let's go then," She smiled and walked down the sidewalk with her daughter and joining the parade, a grin on both of their faces. They did get recognized a few times and even posed for some photos. This was going to be absolutely everywhere soon and she secretly hoped it made Thomas pissed.
Dani kept saying hi to strangers and Angie laughed each time though she knew people were beginning to notice the men in all black with an earpiece following the First Lady and her daughter, it was kind of hard to miss.
But everything changed for both of them, all of them, the entire country, all when the march entered Times Square. A platform had been set up and on it stood her husband President Thomas Jefferson, "Daddy!" Dani yelled and waved her sign faster.
Angelica picked her up and nodded, "Yeah that's daddy...come on. Let's go see what your crazy father is up to." She mumbled and pushed her way gently through the crowd to the stage. She stared at one of the secret service members and he just stepped aside as he knew arguing with her was useless.
She marched up the steps with Dani bouncing on her hip, ignoring the cheering and booing from the crowd. She walked over to Thomas and before she could speak he grabbed the microphone, "Today children marched all over the country to demand safety and we'd have to be purposefully blind to ignore it. Especially me...my family is here. As you can see, as you saw." He smiled over at Angelica who lightened up a little bit.
"I'll be at home," She mouthed to Thomas since it was getting dangerously close to Dani's nap time and she was extremely cranky without her nap. Thomas smiled and nodded slightly before turning back to give his speech as Angelica left to an almost thunderous applause.
"Why we leaving?" Dani asked as Angie marched with her head high to the car, "I wanna stay wiff daddy!" She yelled and Angelica knew she should've left a bit earlier.
"Daddy's coming too, he's just talking a little bit. I'll show you later, promise." She smiled and buckled Dani in before climbing into the driver's seat and setting off. Dani cried almost the entire way there and screamed when Angie put her into her bed but soon she was passed out with Snuggle Jim Jam Bunny tucked into her chubby arms.
She sighed and squeaked when she felt arms wrap around her waist, "So I thought about what you said." Thomas whispered into her ear, "And you were right. As you always are. I love you and I love our daughter and I do value your opinions and ideals and morals and the fact that-"
"-You don't have to kiss my boot anymore," Angie laughed and turned around, cupping his face and looking up at him, "I love you Thomas Jefferson but ever try and order me like that again and you won't have a dick."
"Oh..right."
