Thomas looked at his wrist and covered it up, embarrassed, what did he do to make his soulmate think that of all things. Really, even now he didn't entirely know what he could do to elicit his soulmate to say this to him. Who's this weirdo? That's what it said on him for the rest of his life. His mother used to tell him that when he was born his parents just looked at each other before they burst out laughing at the fact that their son was probably going to embarrass himself royally right in front of the person he was meant to spend his life with.
Some people of Thomas's standing in politics and on the social ladder would get portraits done of them with their soulmate when they found them with their arms on display to show what they thought when they met. Thomas's parents had it done, his mother's says He sure does have pretty eyes while his father's says This woman is probably the only pretty one in this entire room and when they got married they had a portrait done with their arms held against each other to show off the fact that they complimented each other perfectly. Meanwhile, Thomas's soulmate insulted him mildly with her thoughts on his apparent weirdness.
Now, Thomas has never been described as weird. He was a calm and collected person until he or his livelihood is threatened or insulted, then he became heated. Sometimes he would make offhanded comments or retorts to embarrass somebody to the point that they don't know how to respond but none of those things could be considered weird. For years now he had been trying to find his soulmate so he could question them extensively about why they thought that he of all people was a weird man.
Another curiosity that many people suffer is the question of what's on their soulmate's wrists. What will he think when he meets his soulmate? Will he insult them mentally as well? He couldn't imagine that he'd be the type to do that but who knows? He had to meet her to find out and he was determined to meet her, he hoped they were a her. He knew some people were soulmates with the same gender but he couldn't do that. He sort of didn't swing that way at all, he found women attractive and pretty but men were a different story entirely. He could never love a man romantically simply because he wasn't attracted to them and...he really wanted his soulmate to be a woman because of that fact.
Enough philosophy, Thomas needed to head out. He finished getting dressed and headed out almost immediately, going to find his friend James Madison so they could go to the Senate building and disagree heavily with Alexander Hamilton. I mean, that was sort of his job. He didn't like Hamilton and knew that whatever the man decided to propose for the future of the States was going to be a failure. The man probably didn't even know how to properly word an inventory of...hey that's not a bad idea! Just make Hamilton have to do an inventory check of the treasury and make him have to turn it in within a month so when he obviously fails because of the so soon deadline Thomas can say he's hiding things and finally get him fired! Perfect!
However, in his daydreaming, Thomas didn't notice a woman in his path until he bumped into her. He backed up a bit instantly and stared at her with wide eyes while she looked like she was being inconvenienced. It took Thomas a moment to realize why and he tried to apologize, "I..." He couldn't, she was so pretty! God, she's beautiful.
The woman raised an eyebrow, "...Yes?" She asked to try and prompt Thomas to finish. She crossed her arm which made her sleeve ride up and Thomas looked at the writing curiously making the woman roll her eyes, "My name is Angelica Schuyler by the way. If you'd please, can a weirdo such as yourself tell me the direction of the Senate building?" She was blunt.
"Oh sure..." He trailed off and his eyes widened as he realized exactly what she just said, "Weirdo? H-Hey can I see your wrist?" He asked tentatively.
"If you're my soulmate I'm going to be angry," Angelica replied and held her arm out anyway. Thomas rolled her sleeve up to see the words God, she's beautiful on her wrist.
"Oh man, I'm embarrassed..." Slowly he pulled his sleeves back to reveal the words Who's this weirdo? On him. He cleared his throat, "My name is Thomas Jefferson and I work in the United States government as the Secretary of State." He smirked as he saw realization dawn on Angelica.
"I literally cannot believe this," She sighed and Thomas was surprised to find her looping her arm around his, "Well since we're heading in about the same direction we may as well get to know each other, don't you think? After all, as soulmates, it is inevitable that we're going to wind up married. In this time you can try and redeem yourself for that lackluster performance earlier that was so bad it had branded you with the embarrassment and failure of those few seconds for your entire life." God, she was absolutely ruthless! "And to think I thought my soulmate was going to be a princely type person since he had given me a compliment to literally last a lifetime when in truth he is just some rich man's son who gets caught off guard by a woman's looks so much that it makes him forget social protocol and proper etiquette." Thomas looked away but soon felt a soft peck on his cheek, "But I guess that makes you my weirdo, doesn't it?"
Thomas swallowed his breath which he wasn't quite sure he was holding. He could feel the blush rising on his cheeks and he forced himself to smirk and try to act confident, "I guess it does."
