Trigger Warning: Mention of Animal Abuse

Eliza giggled as she slipped the onesie over her daughter's head, she looked gorgeous. She and Aaron had plans for the day and they involved adopting a puppy which was exactly why Louisa now had a puppy onesie on. She picked her up and felt a grin coming back, "What a cutie. Your daddy is going to be amazed at how adorable you look." Eliza giggled.

Louisa squealed and Eliza nodded. She looked at the door and Louisa pointed so she did as she was told and carried the one-year-old out of the room and down their stairs to the dining room, "There's my family!" She heard her husband say from wherever he was. Aaron came from the pantry, flour over his forearms as he took Louisa and kissed Eliza's forehead, "Good morning, love." He mumbled.

"Morning," Eliza giggled and hugged him securely, "I had all of the papers for Drax faxed last night." She told him. Drax was the Great Dane they were looking into adopting and eventually decided he'd be the best addition to their growing family. He was about two years old and his pelt was white with black splats here and there, "So we just have to have proof of identity to get him. We literally can just walk in, throw an ID at them, and go home with him." She smiled and cupped his face.

"Why don't we go now-wait I mean after I wash my hands. Take Louisa back?" Eliza happily took their daughter from his hands so he could run to the bathroom and clean up. She looked back at her child and sighed happily, she was actually cementing her family with him. A child, a ring, and now a pet. It was all exactly what she wanted from this life but it still surprised her.

Aaron came back about ten minutes later with the car keys in his hand and a wallet, "My driver's license will work for an ID for Drax, right? Wouldn't want to get there and then have to leave again and-"

"-Yes it works," Eliza giggled and kissed his chin, "Just like how it works at a bar. Come on, get in the car." She headed out and Aaron followed, getting into the front seat as she strapped Louisa in. She stuck a bottle in her mouth when she got fussy before getting into the passenger seat.

Aaron offered her his hand and she happily accepted it, sitting back comfortably in her seat as they headed to the humane society, the place they were adopting Drax from. Drax came from a bad past which is how he wound up there but he now had the Burr family!

There was so much traffic, too much, Eliza hated it so much. She couldn't even fall asleep or distract herself as they sat in Friday traffic because her mind was buzzing too much with the fact that she was about to own such a beautiful and loving dog for her family. Louisa wasn't helping, when she was in a car seat she was upset if the car wasn't moving so traffic made her scream.

Finally, they arrived at the gray building that held their future fur baby. Eliza jumped out and got Louisa out as Aaron did the same. He took Louisa and plopped her on his hip, taking Eliza's hand, and walking into the place together. The barking was loud since animals did live here, Louisa began squealing at each animal she saw whether it was a dog or cat simply because she could.

They made it through the chaos though and found the adoption registry. Aaron dealt with the extra paperwork as a worker brought Drax out, "Do'ee!" Louisa shouted instantly. Eliza giggled and set her on her little feet.

Louisa toddled over clumsily and wrapped her chubby arms around Drax's neck, "Hey Loo? Can you say Drax? That's the doggy's name, it's Drax." She watched Louisa debate it, the look was absolutely precious.

"Do'ee..." Louisa looked confused and held Drax's collar to stay standing, Drax seemed okay with it. He was a Great Dane so his entire body was taller than her, "Dax!" She shouted and began trying her best to jump, she wasn't quite able to do that yet.

"You did it! That's right!" Eliza shouted and picked her up, twirling a little. Louisa screamed which made Drax bark, "Oh shhh, you'll scare the doggy." She whispered and set Louisa down again to begin playing with Drax once more.

Eliza felt arms wrap around her and she breathed in the scent of Aaron, mostly he smelled like books, to be honest. She looked up at him and smiled, "Louisa likes Drax and Drax likes Louisa." She told him.

"I can see that. So we can go home now," He put a leash on Drax and let Eliza hold Louisa as they went back to the car. Eliza wasn't looking forward to the traffic but Drax and Louisa seemed to be having a party in the backseat the entire way back.

When they finally got home, Drax had apple juice all over his back which had made his white fur shades of yellow while Louisa's hair was a mess from what Eliza guessed was a lot of dog licks. She sighed and turned to Aaron, "I'll fix Louisa, you fix Drax?" She asked.

"You gave me the hard one," Aaron whined, "Louisa only needs her hair flattened and Drax needs a whole bath. First the paperwork and now this. You're such a meanie," He kissed her forehead again and shrugged, "I'll give Drax a bath if you let us order pizza for dinner tonight. I'm making french bread so it'll be a good combination I think."

"Alright, deal," Eliza smiled and pecked his cheek before taking Louisa to the living room, finding her special tiny baby brush before she started brushing the tiny strands of her hair. She hummed and Louisa leaned into her since she liked her hair being touched. Distantly they heard yelling and playful barking, "I think your daddy is having trouble with Drax, Loo."

"Dax!" Louisa shouted and began clapping like a madman. Eliza laughed softly before kissing the top of her head, "Dax big doggo!" Louisa told her mom and turned around to look directly into her eyes.

"That he is, baby. That he is."
