Maria helped her best friend get into her wedding dress and smiled gently as she fluffed Peggy's skirt for her white, "There I think it's good now." She told her and smiled, "You know there's nothing cheesier than being the only unmarried bridesmaid at a wedding." She told her truthfully.

Peggy giggled and nodded, "Just wait until after the ceremony. I'm just going to hand you the bouquet." She teased as she got her bunch of flowers as she said that, "I can't believe I'm finally getting married! On New Years too! I'll never forget my anniversary now." She added.

Maria hit her arm lightly with a chuckle before they headed to the door. Maria walked down the aisle with the best man before she stood next to the altar for the ceremony. She waited and then heard the usual song to indicate that the bride was coming and she watched Peggy walking down with her father making Maria want to tear up and cry.

She felt her legs and feet going numb as she had to stand for the entire ceremony. She kept glancing at the audience where she could see the man she was dating, Thomas Jefferson, who stuck his tongue out at her each time she looked at him which made her giggle. Before she knew it the rings and vows were exchanged and she had to follow Peggy down the aisle with the best man again.

Maria found herself eating at the head table for the wedding party. She felt almost constricted in her red dress which held her body tighter than what was probably healthy. She didn't mind though and worked through it for Peggy and her wedding. She tried to relax and enjoy herself for the reception but soon she got up to go sit with Thomas instead of staying at the head table.

"Hey," Thomas smiled when he saw her and even scooted the chair next to him out for her, "Nervous? Anxious?" He asked quietly.

Maria nodded and leaned her head on his shoulder, "I'm happy for Pegs and all but I'm not feeling it tonight because we stayed up until midnight last night." She told him quietly, "But seriously don't tell Pegs, I'll fight to make her happy. This should be the happiest day of her life, right?"

Thomas nodded, "You're an amazing friend." He mumbled and pecked the side of her head. Maria smiled, "Not as good as me though~" She then smacked his shoulder and he laughed, "I was joking of course." He told her.

Maria huffed, "I will bite your ear off if you tease me anymore." She told him quite bluntly. Maria ignored Thomas hooting with laughter until she saw Peggy rise, she was curious as to why she was standing.

Soon Peggy held her bouquet up and yelled, "It's time to throw the flowers!" She declared. It took a second for the cheering to die down and a knowing smirk came over her face as she looked at Maria. She spoke again soon after, "There's only one single woman at this wedding." She walked straight to Maria who rolled her eyes sarcastically but she accepted the bouquet.

"Maria?" She turned to Thomas before her breath stopped. He was on one knee and held a ring up, people began to scream for them and she felt herself burst into tears, "Maria will you marry me?" Thomas finally asked.

Maria nodded and put her left hand out for him as she tried to stop crying so hard, "Of course I will you idiot." She told him and threw herself into his arms, hugging him tightly as he did the same to her.

"Good..." He mumbled and ran his hand up and down her back, "Because I've been planning this for years with Peggy and let me tell you just how nerve-wracking that was." He chuckled quietly and they got back into their chairs.

Peggy sat down and poked Maria, "So I get to be your maid of honor too, right?" She asked quietly.

Maria looked at her, "Wait lets back up...you knew?!" She shouted. Peggy laughed and nodded and so Maria pushed her out of her chair before hugging her tightly, "God how did you keep this from me for...how long?" She furrowed her eyebrows as she tried to guess the amount of time this had taken to happen.

"Years," Thomas whined and pulled Maria up into his lap where he hugged her from behind, "Two and it took for-fucking-ever." He groaned.

"That's only two," Maria replied and then screamed when Thomas began to tickle her. Slowly her screaming blended into laughter, "Stop! Okay! I give! Stop!" She grabbed his hands, "Babe if you don't stop I will end you!" She added.

Thomas chuckled and slowly stopped tickling her, "Maria Lewis?" He tsked, "Nah I like Maria Jefferson." He poked her cheek and she smiled broadly.

"Okay!" Peggy clapped her hands to grab everybody's attention again, "Is this a wedding or what?!" She pointed to the cake, "I'm cutting that and everybody's going to watch!" She skipped off and Maria turned to Thomas.

She patted his cheek and smiled gently, "You'd better have an engagement ring as well. We both need one so everybody knows that you are mine." She looked down and played with the ring on her finger with a wide smile planted on her face permanently.

"I do have one actually," He told her and pulled out a diamond-encrusted ring from his pocket which he slid onto his finger. He kissed Maria's cheek again, "I know it'll be maybe awhile but I still can't way to marry you."

Maria nodded, "Same for me. However, there's one thing you've seemed to have forgotten." She told him quietly.

Thomas tilted his head slightly in confusion, "What?" He obviously couldn't figure out what Maria was referencing or talking about.

Maria giggled and smiled, "You have forgotten that before we can even plan our wedding we have to finish being at Peggy's. Not to mention she's giving us the stink eye so if we don't get out there she might actually kill us."

"Oh right," Thomas and Maria laughed happily before getting up and getting up, hurrying to suck up to Peggy as an apology.
