To be honest, I'm not entirely sure he looks too much better from when I last saw him. A bandage is wrapped around his torso, blood staining it, but he's breathing, which is always a good sign. With a sigh, I walk over to him and sit down on the chair across from his bed, taking his hand in mine, yet his is cold. Tears prickle at my eyes, and I let them run over my cheeks, dropping onto the light purple shirt I have on, making dark splotches of wetness.
"Dad, I don't know if you can hear me, but if you can, please, heal, push through this. You can survive this, you can wake up. I'm not ready for you to go, I never will be, but you can't leave me. I know you miss Mum, but you can't join her, not yet. Please, please fight through this. I need you here, we need you here, you can't go, you can't. Don't leave me alone here without either of my parents," I whisper to him, the tears merging with my words to create a softly spoken plea.
"He can hear you, he won't be able to respond though," a familiar voice says from the doorway. I look up to see Karn standing against the doorway, his magic tired, but a life to his eyes.
And fear.
It clogs the air, stirring my magic up a bit. If Karn's scared, how the hell are we meant to feel? "That wound is much harder to heal. Nether brick contains Imorphia in it, don't know why, but it seems to be some sort of hybrid between obsidian and netherrack. It makes that wound a lot harder to heal, but not impossible. We just couldn't entirely close it up."
"Shouldn't the Imorphia stop your magic?" I ask, sniffling as I wipe the tears off my face.
"It puts up a resistance to it in this case, but it's not full on disabling our magic. Reason being, it's only a mix of obsidian and netherrack, meaning there isn't as much Imorphia in it, nowhere near the amount found in normal obsidian. Makes it better for us and gives him a better chance of survival."
"That's good, I guess," I sigh out, turning back to Dad who looks like the life got sucked out of his soul.
"He'll get better," Karn promises, hope in his voice, but the fear sparkling in his eyes unnerves me. It is not often that something shakes Karn up this much. He walks over to me, standing beside the chair I'm on, his eyes set on Dad.
"How are you so sure about that?"
"I'm not, but I know Brine, and he wouldn't let go so easily, your Dad has been through hell, he's strong, he can get through this. One thing about your dad, Princess, is he is not weak."
"I know he's not. I need to go check on Nathan, my magic's getting ancy. Do you know when you'll be able to get that brick out of his leg?" I ask him.
"Already have, I couldn't heal it though, used all my energy up on this one here," he says, gesturing towards Dad. "I've stitched it up though and got him on a healing potion drip sort of thing. Hopefully it'll help speed up the process. Once you've given your magic some more rest, you can try heal it too. It was only concrete, not Nether brick." He leans down and gives me a hug. "They will both be fine, but you need to see your mate, he needs you beside him, I can stay here."
"Okay, thanks, Karn." He nods to me, and I give Dad's hand one last squeeze before exiting the room, leaving the enderman alone with him. I head towards Nate's room, my heart heavy and sitting low in my chest, my magic torn in half on whether I should sit with Nathan or with Dad, the two of them each holding onto part of me.
"I know it's unusual, and this is all new to you, but go to where your magic is pulling you, usually it's right. It is magic, after all," her voices startles me and I whip around to see Tara approaching me. "I know you're torn on who you should be beside right now, and I hate to say it, but Brine isn't waking up anytime soon. Those drugs are going to wear off Nathan sooner than you might think. Trust your magic's instincts, it will know what to do." She steps up to me and wraps her arms around me, a tiredness and anxiety running from her, infecting the air and not helping settle my magic.
