Nathan's a really cool guy, my magic and I are already very close to him and this weird bond pull does not help the fact that we're in two different realms. I've seen him everyday since that first date, and it's been a week already. Steve has helped cover for me, saying he's doing some training with me, or that he's taking me for a long walk through the woods. And I don't think Dad is buying it.
He's fine with me going to the Overworld, and he trusts Steve to look after me. It's good he has his trust back in his brother. But I don't think he trusts the web of lies I've spun.
He sits across from me, sipping on a steaming cup of coffee, his eyes focused on me, and I can feel him pushing his emotions back. "So," he starts, setting his coffee down on the table dramatically. "How is Steve?" he asks. I gulp nervously, quickly swallowing the warm liquid.
"Uh-he's good... I guess? He's been looking at lots of different recipes and stuff, said he's trying out new styles of cooking," I tell him nervously, afraid of him discovering my little secret. I'm still not sure how he's going to react, considering Steve was pretty intense.
"Yeah? And how's the training going? He taught you anything new?" he continues to interrogate me.
"Yeah, lots of different techniques."
"Well, I guess that's good." He smirks slightly at me, sipping at his coffee again.
He must be onto me.
"Anything else new? I feel like I barely ever see you around here anymore," he asks.
"Uh-yeah, I'm really enjoying being in the Overworld," I say. Wrong thing to say. A wave of sadness washes over him, but he quickly conceals it again, but I easily caught it. "Not saying that I don't like it here, I do! It's just, this training is going really well and it is a lot of fun."
"Okay, it's fine, Jade, I don't care." Bullshit. "But, you know you can tell me anything, right?"
"Yeah, of course."
"Well, I hear you've got yourself a boyfriend," he says casually, and I instantly spit out my coffee, looking up at him incredulously.
How the fuck did he find out?
"Uh-no, where-where did you hear that?" I ask, trying to play it off.
"I have my ways," he replies with a slightly evil smile.
"Dad, I-"
"Don't worry about it, Jade, I get why you wouldn't want to tell me. I'm your big bad Dad, I want to protect my little girl, which I do. But, I understand what finding your mate is like, I understand the pull to always be with them. Hell, I was like that with your mum. I want to meet this kid, see what he's like."
"Okay, but I'm not sure if he's ready for that yet. We only met like... a week ago."
"Sure, do it when you're ready, but don't feel like you have to hide it from me, okay?"
"Yeah, okay," I agree.
"Good, now you can tell Liam he doesn't need to be so damn jumpy around me," he tells me with a chuckle.
"Wait, did Liam say someth-"
"No, as I said I have my ways, but he isn't very good at not being nervous around me lately, it's rather funny."
"Okay, I'll go talk to him, thanks Dad." I walk around the table and give him a hug, his magic embracing mine. It's a huge relief to know I don't have to keep hiding this from him.
I teleport away to Liam's room and knock on the door, walking in once I hear a 'come in' from the other side. Liam lies on his bed with a book in hand, his eyes flitting up from the text covered pages.
