Liam's PoVCam is... different. I don't know, but something has changed about him, I just can't put my finger on it. There's something off about him, but that probably comes with surviving by yourself since being a teenager while simultaneously believing your entire family is dead. At least I still had the hope that Cam had survived.
"So, what'd you do today?" I ask him, shoving another cracker into my mouth, the salty goodness almost making me groan. Almost.
"Job hunting," he replies easily.
"Why are you trying to find a job? You don't need to work," I respond.
"I don't want to become solely reliant on these people. They're nice and all, but if I screw up, or something happens, I want to make sure you and I can get out of here and keep living."
"And what about them?" I accuse, my eyebrows scrunching together slightly.
"They can look after themselves, you're my main priority."
"They're my family, Cam," I tell him, the stirrings of anger blossoming in my gut.
"Lee, I've believed for the past nine years you were dead, I finally have you back, I'm not letting that go," he says sternly, his face betraying no emotion.
"And for seven of those years I dealt with the guilt of Tim dying, but Gaby was there, she is a sister to me," I say, digging my heels in. No matter what, I am not leaving her, or any of the people here.
"Lee-"
"I am not leaving them here, no matter what, especially not Gaby," I argue back and he sighs, standing.
"I'm going to go get some air. Just... I have to protect you, Lee. You're all I have left."
And maybe, if I had not been so distracted by emotions I didn't know how to deal with, I would've noticed the slightly shimmering form in the corner.
Cole's PoV
"What do you think about Cameron?" I ask Bree, her eyes raking over the jigsaw in front of her, trying to find where the next piece goes.
"He's fine, but I think he could easily distract Liam, especially since this sort of stuff is Liam's expertise. He was always the brains and brawn of our duo. He would figure it out, I would infiltrate, he would hang around for backup, just in case. I've only needed him a few times on a mission," she answers, quickly deciding where it goes.
"So you think Cameron might veer him off course, even if not intentionally?"
"Yeah, that's exactly what I think. And he can't, because we need to find Steve, sooner rather than later," she says.
"Do you know how they're getting on with that?"
"I know Hero has been trying to find his mind or something like that. I don't know, I don't understand all this magic bullshit."
"Do you know where Jade and Nathan are?" I ask, an idea popping into my head as I grab my crossbow from the door, securing it to my back.
"Uh... I think Tara and Jade have gone to have a nosy around in town, Nathan is having a coffee, I think," she answers.
"Thanks." I smile at her before teleporting away. Maybe... just maybe it might work.
Nathan almost falls out of the chair he's sitting in as I teleport in, his green eyes shooting a glare at me. "You really shouldn't scare a guy like that," he snipes playfully, bringing his coffee to his lips.
"I had an idea," I tell him hurriedly.
"Uh-oh, that's not good," he responds with a smirk, the teasing showing on his face.
