Something nexts to me moves, the steady beat of a heart against my chest, but it isn't my heart, someone's arms encircling me. Slowly, I open my eyes, looking up at the sleep covered eyes above me, the green looking straight forward, lost in thought. I move into him more, snuggling into his shoulder. "How are you feeling?" I ask."My face is a bit sore, but it's nothing. My rib feels fine though?" he asks, looking down at me, his eyebrows creasing together.
"Dad and I healed your nose and rib, the bones aren't broken but you still need to be careful," I explain.
"Thanks," he says, looking forward again.
"What was that? Why was your dad hurting you?"
"It's normal, I deserve it, I'm a burden on them. They've had to hide my magic from the villagers, they've had to make a conscious effort. It's been real tough on them, I should at least get to feel what that's like too considering it's my fault."
"Oh god no, Nate. This isn't your fault. You were born with magic, it's no one's fault," I assure him, rubbing his arm.
"We had to move from the Northern Plains area to here because someone found out about my magic. It was hard for them to leave, I deserve everything I get for making them move away from all their friends."
"Don't you dare even think like that. Your magic is not a bad thing, it's your best friend, it'll always be there for you, you are so so lucky to have it all your life, don't waste it."
"And you have magic too, I'm guessing your entire life?"
"I haven't had it my whole life, it was taken from me when I was four, I only got it back about a year and a half ago. You need to love your magic, because it loves you, don't take it for granted."
"This time wasn't even bad," he says quietly.
"He shouldn't be touching you."
"He has every right, he-"
"He definitely does not have any right to hit you, or hurt you," I cut him off. "Your house obviously isn't safe, how about you stay here, in the Nether?" I offer.
"Wait, your dad would be okay with that?"
"I'm sure he will, we have a lot of spare rooms."
"That would be nice, plus it would mean I'm closer to you," he says, pecking me on the head.
We lie there for a while longer until my stomach starts rumbling, and I swing my legs off the bed, pulling Nate up as well. I teleport the two of us to the dining hall, getting him to sit down and waving a skeleton over. It eyes Nathan up and down, narrowing its eyes at him. "Don't touch him," I growl at it in Mobish and it quickly snaps to attention.
"S-sorry, Ma'am."
"It's fine," I brush him off. "Nathan, what do you want?" I ask him in English as he stares at me, mouth agape.
"Uh... I'll just have some toast."
"Can we get toast for both of us?" I ask the skeleton and he nods quickly. "And two coffees."
"Of course, they'll be right out."
"What did you say to it?" Nate asks me.
"Oh, I told it to back off, and I asked it for breakfast," I tell him.
"Woah, that's nuts. It's so cool that you can talk to mobs."
"Yeah, Dad's jealous. Karn taught him some, but Dad doesn't know it very well."
We eat breakfast and I take him around the fortress, pointing the main things out when we run into Liam and Gaby. "Hey Jade and Nathan. What're you doing here?" Gaby asks, eyeing Nathan.
